Leaving in 2nd can optimize the A8 with the correct rear gear and tire height. With 2nd being 2.97 it is deeper than 3 speeds and almost as deep as the 700R4 or 4L60.

It's really gonna depend on how fast the trans can act along with whatever tm is left hiding in it imo. Maybe it can't get there because of that idk. For sure there comes a point where using more gearing isn't as beneficial.
