I would think that the seals would be designed to not break down in hydraulic fluid alone. You would think this would be one of the main criteria when designing it. If anything, as was already stated, I would think the contaminants in the fluid is what eventually degrades or destroys the seals causing a loss of fluid pressure.

Yea....ive went for years w/o bleeding the clutch.
I run a qtr master tri lite hrb. Had it in the car 10yrs before the rebuild. There was nothing wrong when i rebuilt it. Just did it for preventative maintenance. Cost about $60 for the kit.

Just for example. I replaced all clutch related components in my old '00 c5 at once, everything except the master. The fluid would get dirty quite quickly, within 500-1000 miles or so fresh clean fluid would be dark. I bled it multiple times with the same dark results. Mike Yeager at east coast performance corvettes (rest his soul) explained that the seals inside the master can deteriorate over a long period of time, especially in cars that go long periods of time (not necessarily mileage) without changing the fluid. He told me the clutch fluid "should" be flushed every few thousands miles to help prevent the seals going bad. I replaced the master with a new stock unit and the fluid would no longer get dark quickly. It would still be clean at a 3000 mile oil change.
A friend's '99 z28 did the exact same thing with the same results. But I am talking about two cars that had 12+ years of factory stock clutch fluid in them, never being changed due to being lower mileage cars. I imagine that had something to do with it.

I am a believer in flushing stuff once in a while.....including brake fluid.
But to do it every 3k miles is bs. It's not what's really affecting high rpm shifting which is what got us started on this.

How come you never need to flush brake fluid, but you put the same stuff in your clutch, which gets used less and makes less heat?

My C4 vette needed the brake fluid flushed. It was a pucker moment the first time it boiled in traffic. It looked like coca cola when I flushed it.
