With his light weight and 370RWHP he could hit 117-118mph EASILY. Right along what a stock RT Viper traps.

I dont see the big conspiracy?

Are you sure? Didn't know Vipers were that heavy.

^ I agree. 1st Gen Vipers weigh about 3400 lbs. They're right on the scale with the FBodies, so unless insom's car had some weight redux, they should weigh about the same.

Remeber though, that 488 V-10 is a violent motor! Even though peak hp may be about the same, thats only at one rpm, what about the other 5999? haha, what im saying is, that engine puts more power out at lower rpms than the modded ls1, giving it the advantage from a roll, not to mention the ***-loads of torque. Also those things come with atleast 315-30's stock, thats one hell of a tire and with a good driver can get out of the hole easier. However, most of the viper owners ive seen arent exactly the best of drivers who know thier cars inside and out, i mean over 30k miles on a viper, no matter what the age, is releativly rare. Most (not all) who own them really dont tend to drive them alot, just for fun and show, most of us drive our cars daily.

in a steet race anything can happen. If it was a gen 1 viper they are faily evenly matched for power. The gen 1 viper weighs about 3450 so it looks like you had a good weight advantage. I wouldn't call BS at all

i kinda expected some of ya'll to say that.. its not like low 12 @ 116/118 is unbeatable by a ls1.. just cause its a "VIPER" ppl call bs. .

would of been the same thing if i ran a ferrari modena or somethin.. just cause its a car people idolize.

anyway i wouldn't bother posting it if it didn't happen.. i don't have anyone on here to impress.. it was just a fun race and thought i'd share.. probably one of the few times i'll get a chance to run one

A former boss of mine just bought a used yellow Viper RT/10. I'm not sure what year. I'm hoping to smoke his smug *** before I leave town. This gives me some hope.

Anyone stop to think that the Viper's driver was a moron to begin with?
If the cars were a close match or not...one driver was superior at the roll and one was better at the launch....

that is all

Well im not 100% sure but I think the SRTs have a lil more power..anyone have some weight figures on a Gen II viper???

I have 3383lbs as claimed here http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/u...ex.cfm/id/2305

A Stock Z06 would give one a hell of a run (dunno how close they are on listed times) so if you can take on a Z06, I would think running a GenI or II viper shouldnt be an issue...unless modded... In this months hotrod there is a Viper with a 150 shot running solid 10s.

More info here...
http://www.vipercentral.com/buy/specs/specs98.htm

These are not helping the Viper out either...holy crap!!!!
Drag Coefficient 0.495 (top off)
0.46 (soft top)
0.45 (hard top) - RT/10
0.35 - GTS
0.29 - C5
0.34 - F-body

This is what I remember when researching the Vipers high drag coefficient:

At least for the the GTS and the S.R.T-10's, the Viper aerodynamics actually generate downforce at higher speeds (unlike C5's or F-bodies). The engine cooling is also a priority with the relatively uninhibited front end radiator access through the cross hairs. Its a trade off for making the car more suitable for a closed race course. But you are correct, it certainly wont help the Viper in a street race!

Learn something new everyday I always wondered what the viper would have been capable of with a slippery .29 ... I know that the top speed would have been a lil higher At least theres a valid reason behind the design.

I was at Kennedale this past Sunday and there was a newer Viper there (the 500+HP model). I saw him make 2 runs. The first was an 8.4 and the second was an 8.3. I think the car probably had faster times in it if he could drive a bit better though. Incidentally, 8.4 is about what I've also seen most Z06's run on street tires too.

I'm willing to bet that with some good driving that Viper might be capable of an 8.1 or 8.0, so do the math, can your car outrun a new Viper? Go to the track, stop talking **** and find out for sure!

Are you at 5000 feet or something? Low 8's suck. A stock Gen2 S.R.T.10 should have no problem running mid to high 7's on street tires at sea level. when i ran 8.2's i was doing 12.5's in the 1/4.

Here is my take on it. I raced an RT10 (not an S.R.T.10) and I pulled him from a roll by 1.5-2 cars. People called bs on me etc. It was black with the removable top. The guy jumped me the first time and i didnt even race then I got back up and downshifted to 3rd. When he heard my exhaust he tried to jump me again but i caught him and walked him. I am assuming it was an early model RT10 (400-405hp) because i was only making 368rwhp/336rwtq at the time (I also ran 12.5 @ 114mph).

I can see the poster running pretty even with a 450hp model. He should walk a 400hp model like I did (even with the viper taking the hit).
