Thinking about this, I think your friend should look into LT1's, too. You can get 93's dirt cheap. They respond a little worse to mods then the DSM's, but you start off MUCH better than the 5.0 and still has the same potential.

There is no question here. The 5.0 wins hands down. Cold air kit, TB, pulley's, exhaust, short shifter, 4.10's and slicks, and you have a 12 second car.
I have been contemplating another 5.0 myself, it would be my 3rd one in 4 years.

But still, 5.0 over DSM!

Sure that 300RWHP for cheap sounds great with a DSM, but then your clutch is gone. You better keep a spare tranny or two in the hatch because you'll need them. Hope that timing belt (yes belt) doesn't go or your whole engine will destroy itself. You'll need every bit of that $2000 just to keep your car running. Those things are a mechanic's nightmare.
And which is faster in the long run? We all know the answer to that
Also, compare prices for a forged bottom end on a 5.0 and a DSM.
gg jap crap
Case closed.

I could see the car running high 12's, but only because of the 4.10's and the slicks. Its trap speed wouldn't be so steller.

If you still don't believe a bolt on stang (notch) can run 12's, search for Visceral on this site, he's got one.

Well when you take into repairs, of course you are right. Those things make fords look like toyotos in terms of reliability.

Update
Well we went to a auto auction yesterday and he found a Fully loaded with black leather interior 2000 LS1 A4 Z28 that he liked, so he had me check it out before he bid the final of $6700. the car only has 40,000miles and bald rear tires, lol. Well to say the least I am so glad he got him a fbody, he wont regret it.

Ill make sure he registers. The only thing we didnt like about the car was a screw on xenon body kit which we took off emediatly. Im glad i took the time and drove up to euless to help him out, or he might of gotten a 99 cobra that was out their.

WOW thats one hell of an upgrade. After reading about the other cars I'm guessing he's going to be really happy with his choice. $6700 is a damn good price too. Tell him welcome to the the club.
