This is purposely a Cliff's Notes version, so I left a lot of history out intentionally.
Oh, I too am eagerly awaiting! I love the Impala's for what they're intended for, but would never make a bonehead challenge like this to an F-Body owner.

I had a 98 Monte Carlo with a 3.8, and all I have to say is,
This guy must have finally woken up! I ran a 15.7 with a drop in K&N, and that Impala has to weigh a couple hundred more pounds. I like my car for getting to work and such, but I never even considered picking races with it.

damn, I want to see this outcome. I know the new impalla is now supercharged. I think it's 260hp. Runs a 14.8, not bad but racing a modded ls1? Some just don't have a clue, hehe. Oh well. I agree, no mercy. You have to beat him real bad to get the point, I mean, about 10 cars worth.

The new Impala "SS" version is rated at 240 hp / 280 tq and gets the Series II 3800 L67 Motor that the 97-03 GTPs had.. The GTPs 04 and newer got the Series III 3800 motor rated at 260 hp and 280 tq. The extra 20 HP is from the Gen V M90 Blower
Having said that, if the Impala is the SS version and has the SC engine, it will hang with the LS1 upto 50-55 mph due to it's torque and it'll be all over after that!
If the Impala is somewhat modded i.e. say a 3.4" pulley, Intake, and PCM [most common *beginner* mods for the L67 engine] it can lead a stock LS1 upto 70ish, again because of the torque [probably around 320 lb/ft now], and then give up.. but I doubt this Impala is quite that
97-03 GTPs run anywhere from 14.8-14.4 @ 95-97 mph bone stock!.. I've witnessed atleast 3 factory stock GTPs run 14.1s @ 98 mph.. Still no match with LS1s, drivers being equal ofcourse If the GTP/Impala SS/Monte SS is a bit more modded i.e. rockers, headers, smaller pulley.. stock LS1s watch out!

Even "if" his impala had that, are you saying that the torque it would make would pull away from an 350rwhp STALLED ls1?

Anyway, there's some good upgrades for these though. I mean major work and they run 12s.

Their stage 6 says possibly high 12s. An ls1 can run that with slicks and a 6 speed. Just a cammed one only would run lows 12s.

well i raced a new body style monte SS two days ago, and i walked him HARD. he was following me and was gettin right up my ***, then backin off. So as soon as i got an open section i downed it and took off on him. HE tried to stay with me but i was putting more carlenghts on him by the second. So i slowed down and he came flying up again and i did the same thing again. and he got left in the dust... again.
This is definately gonna be an interesting race, interesting to see how many buslengths this impala loses by.
