Default Run in with a 01 Viper GTS

Just thought i would share, About 2 nights ago i was driving home when i happen to look over in the Wawa parking lot as i drove by and saw a viper siting there. I thought it was my friends so i went aways down the road and turned around. About a min after i saw it pass by me so i quick pulled a U-turn and chased him down. He lead me to another wawa in town where i pulled up and parked next to him. He got out of the car and we talked for awhile, he was a older guy, he said he liked my car and a couple of his buddies had camaro's that ran in the 9's and 10's. He was a cool dude to he even let me sit in the drivers seat. It was pretty funny because all these girls where looking at us when i was in the drivers seat and i said "yea thats right...its my viper...come to me" after a little bit of talking we departed. He went down the streat as did i and we stopped at a traffic light. I was in the turning lane to make a right hander to head home and he was in the left lane. When the light turned green he Peeled out and took off down the street so i turned back on the road and chased him. I pulled up right next to him as soon as we got on a straight away right up the road. I dropped it into 2nd and waited for him to make the move. He took off and i mashed the gas pedal ...did i mention i love this cold weather...and so does my turbo . I pulled about a car length on him and then i maxed out 2nd so i shifted into 3rd and either my tires broke loose or my clutch spun so i shifted into 4th same thing . As soon as he heard/saw that he backed out and so did i. He pulled up next to me and smiled and said "NICE!" and gave me the thumbs up i replied and gave him the thumbs up also and he drove away. Just as he left a wiggered out dude in his riced out honda pulled up next to me with his mouth wide open starring at me...i guess he saw the race LOL. Then i turned on to my street. I thought that was pretty good for my set up running 5psi with a stock untuned engine, maxed out fuel system, and a **** load of exhaust leaks and cats on. I cant wait till i get everything fixed its gonna be insanity lol. I guess now its time to save up for a good clutch..i know if my tires/clutch grabbed i would of pulled HARD and had many car lengths and then some to spare. I am still trying to figure out if it was my tires or my clutch...cause my tires are all weather tires there really hard and not ment to hook real well an my clutch never did that before only when it got real cold out???? I just thought it was cool cause i never raced a viper before and there not to common around where i live so i was all hyped up

Thanks for listening

With all season radials and almost 460rwhp I don't know how in the world your tires possibly held when you intially gunned it in second gear. I can barley get mine to grip if I do that in this weather, and I have 315 Nitto 555r's and only about 345-350rwhp. Gunning it from a first gear roll for me is completely uselss. The tires just break into this instant spinning fury and I am hitting my rev limiter in like a second. In second gear roll sometimes it will hook but often if its really cold they will spin a good amount before I get good traction. In the summer though its not a problem.

Good kill though.

Nice run man There is one red viper floatin' around here, everytime I see it, I am either turning, or parking or somethin'!! I cant wait to line up beside it. He'll crush me, but i'd still be fun. Actually, what would it take to beat a viper N/A?

Thats because my exhaust leaks keep getting worse and worse and the spool and "hit" of the turbo keeps getting worse as my pipes come loose more when i first got the kit from the speed shop after everything was installed and nice and tight i would gun it in 1st gear and when it would hit about 3000 rpms it would just spin and continue to spin all the way to 5th . It seems like it got more sluggish as my pipes came loose but thats all gonna be taken care of in another month or so, also looking at cranking it to 7-8psi with a FMIC install

not excuses...i won...dont need any, just explaining whats wrong with the car and how it could run better. If you have exhaust leaks on a rear turbo i think that would effect it pretty good. But hey i only have 200 posts so what do i know

You would need a big cam or a heads and cam setup. Either way the viper would still typically make more torqe and low speed rolls might be to his advantage.

The only problem I have with this story is that you were in the turn lane heading home like you were "OK" with the evening, without even trying to race this guy, until he "peeled" out........WTF is wrong with you or am I the only MF'er to ask people to run, especially in a damn Viper!

Sorry, I just can't stand letting someone get away without at the very least asking them politely if they wanna race. If they decline then I will drive beside them for hours on end bumping tha throttle until they either A. get so annoyed they have to turn off or B. actually race!

Oh yeah, good kill!

lol, yeah but you have to understand not everyone can be as nagging and annoying as you Titty!

Personally, I pretty much never bother people on the street, but if someone is toying with me than I will play along. I've passed by Vipers a few times (I've seen several here on Long island) I don't know I nevre want to be the one to make the first move. For one, I'd hate to bother or annoy someone who's just out having a cruise and secondly, I think there is more pressure to win if you initiate a race. I figure they will see me and if they want to have some fun they come up to play, if not I leave them be.

I understand what you are saying but when i was talking to him at the wawa he didnt want to because he just got off work and was heading home. He told me when winter was over we should have a go at it. Then i guess he just decided the hell with it lol. I am not affraid to race anyone doesnt matter to me its fun. I chased down a saleen 351 around here once but he didnt want to race...i also went after a lambo but he didnt want to race either. Most of the time guys with $80k+ cars arent really into it so i just dont expect it anymore lol

Now that you have explained yourself, feel free to move about the site at your leisure!

Next time you know what to do with those pesky Vipers...

Good kill Tom. When you get your few issues taken care of we will get the FMIC on and turn it up a little. You should be 500+ at 7 or so.
