My friend just got a stock 99 C5 automatic coupe. I've got a 01 WS6 M6 with just a Magnaflow catback. We've been arguing about who's car would win in a race, straight line. I figure it's a driver's race because of his weight advantage. I know he'd take me through the twisties. We just haven't raced yet because I need new front tires badly. No point in taking the chance at a blowout at high speeds. This is probably a common and pointless question, but I'd appreciate any comments you guys have.

 

If you can drive you should beat him in the 1/4. If you guys take it past 110 he will beat you on the top end.

 

1/4 mile you will have the advantage over that auto vette.

 

You are putting more power to the wheels, that much is for certain. Take it above 120 and he will start to pull, but if you launch it as well as he does his auto, you will be faster than he is for the 1/4.

 

I would say the auto has the advantage...no mess up shifts, better reaction ( in most cases) , but if you were going from a roll you'd pull him up top...

 

depends on the driving.....being an auto he will be worst around 40-50 from a roll. You will have no advantage imo from a dig.

 

I would say that any F-body has the advantage over the IRS of the Vette from a dig, although driving will be key since he has a manual.

I Think After You Get Tires It Should Be Pretty Close In The Quarter. After That The Vette Will Leave You.

If i were a betting man i would put my money on the Vette.

 

yeah it's all up to your driving skills...the m6 can be quicker if driven by a good drive...

 

i would say the vette would take it not by much but he has the weight advantage, no error in shifting and more power so you had better be one heck of a driver to win.

 

Race him from a roll or better yet get on the Highway and slow way down..I wouldnt race from a stop.

 

The 01' WS6 should be able to take the 99' C5 IMO. However, if you cannot handle the M6 as well as the ease of an A4 then the C5 could win and then it would be a quicker car from 0 to 100 losing to a slightly less quick car in the 0 to 100 mph range. Then we could add other factors besides driver skill and base performance on a completely tuned car with no flaws such as a clogged Cat or bad tires... you get the point. Bottom line is you will not know until you run and even if you lose today you may win tomorrow with the exact same circumstances.

 

YOU CAN'T BEAT A VETTE, come on its a CORVETTE, just the Name alone means impossible to beat, fast as light, im the ****, it also has more technology and has cool seats. Well thats what most Vette owners think Find out what gears he has, if he has the 2.73 you should pull him like no tomorrow just do all your free mods to insure a VICTORY

(P.S. not all Vette owners think that way but most i have met do)

Driver's race. I have seen some C5 auto's that were dogs, but you never know til you race. Good luck.
