A friend of my son has a 74 ford truck w/short bed,lowered,black,showroom condition w/built 460,big holley,headers,auto,and sounds incredible.

The kid says he's running over 400 hp and thinks he can hang with a lightening.He loves fords and wants to race my LS1.

He's getting it dyno tuned this week and wants to race this coming weekend.

What do you think?

I think trucks are heavy and their coeffecient of drag sucks. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> Its like trying to push a heavy brick thru the air. They NEED more power than you, but you didn't say what mods if any that you have.

My current mods are FRA/K&N,descreened,SLP LM,Sportlines,bilsteins.

This truck sounds like it would stomp my car..it's so fricking loud it's crazy sounding.

He said nobody wants to race him and i can see why.

I want to race him.What do you think?

I started my LS1 for him and he asked me what was that terrible raspy noise coming out the exhaust.I gave it some throttle and he asked me what's wrong with your car?

So you can see what i'm dealing with.My car sounds embarrassing next to this truck.

Could it be all sound and no go??I hope!!

He wants to race from a roll,says he can't hookup from a dig.I said OK with me.This coming saturday we will race.

I will give results next monday.

Well hell, man, that other car I used to drive sounded positively operatic next to the snarl, clatter, and drone of my LS1. But a prettier sound didn't stop it from having 100 fewer hp.

No, LS1's ain't musical. They're just effective. Like the wise man said, it ain't just power, it's power-to-weight. He's what, 2 tons minimum? He's already indicated problems with hooking up. Unless he's really underselling his power and traction, I'm guessing he'll be seein' some honeycomb before your run is thru, whether from a roll or from a <img border="0" alt="[burn out]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_burnout.gif" />

He's intimidating me because of his ferocious sounding truck w/side exhaust exiting before the rear wheels.I looked underneath and he has some little Flowmasters on it w/3 inch exhaust.

The whole truck shakes bigtime when idling.When this kid and my son came by saturday,i was in the house and i thought i was hearing someones stereo.I looked outside and thought Holysh*t it's a ford truck.Definitely old school muscle car sound.

I haven't had my T/A dynoed yet.Seems to pull nicely though.I'm ready for him.

That thing is going to be a brick on the big end. Run him from like a 40 kick, and if he walks you the first 20 or so mph I bet you anything you get it back, and eventually win. As everyone is saying, it's going to take a hell of a lot more power to make that truck "fast" than it is for you.

You said he THINKS he can hang with a lightning? So what! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_images/icons/tongue.gif" /> You can too, matter of fact you can beat a stock one.
You should be getting around 320 rwhp with your mods.
You didn't say whether you had an automatic or 6 speed?

I've got a buddy with a lightening and he can only hang with me for a little bit. I have the A4.Yes he is intimidating the whole neighborhood.I have to admit the truck sounds nice.

You guys know these cars better than i do.I'm not sweating it anymore...like my dad use to say "the bigger they are the harder they fall" I'm going to tell this kid to keep his window rolled down so he can hear my raspy A$$ when i pull him.Then i will rub his nose in it and tell him he's nothing but a school boy with a big mouth. <img border="0" alt="[burn out]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_burnout.gif" />

I met the kid in town at a gas station sat. morning.I told him to follow me to the location i had picked to race.We both had a person with us.As soon as we got on the on-ramp he tried to pass me from a 35mph roll with no luck,he saw honeycomb right away.Then he gets on my ***,i'm in the middle lane.He then goes in the left lane and comes along side me to race.I realize then that we're not going to make it to the race location.He pulls behind me again and gets on my a$$.I pull into the left lane and he immediately pulls into the carpool lane and tries to pass.

At this point we're doing like 65mph.I gave him half of a car length and then i put my foot in the LS1.I pull him like he's standing still,i had four car lengths on him by 90mph.I shut it down and take the next exit.He follows me off the freeway and we talk.

I get out of my car and i'm laughing really hard.I told him....you have a long ways to go before you can hang with a lightening.He says to me....you have a high tech car.He felt pretty bad when i told him...your ford is slow.

I was really suprised that this big built 460 was no match at all for my LS1.It was all intimidation. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />
