I tried to buy a ZR1 before I bought my hawk. I couldn't put down enough money for the bank to make the loan on a 10 year old car. Those things in good condition are still in the 20K range, too much for my lil ol savings account. But still an awsome car. I believe they were the first vette to ever hit 180mph, other than the sledgehammer-which doesn't count. But again, nice story dogtag.

Gee, I wonder if the poor old LS1 stands to ever compete with superior
German engineering.

Makes me wonder what the new series of Gen lll's will do with this treatment as
well.

Can I just say that website may be accurate with ETs but not with HP figures. They admit that the Hemi produced more than advertised, but not the ZL1?? The ZL1 had just as much as the Hemi.
Doesn't anyone else find it amazing that today we have trouble getting production cars in stock form below 13, but back then they had a couple running in the 10s- and it would only be the equivalent of a $40,000 or so car now? Man. . . I want a ZL1. . .

DogTag, I sense that you have misinterpreted my comments. I never intended to argue that a Porsche is better than a LS1, or vice versa, and I certainly was not disparaging LS1s or ZR1s. They are completely different cars, with completely differents pros and cons. I was merely describing my one race with a modified ZR1. With some turbos and the right tuning, a ZR1 should be far faster than my car.

Ps: 11.86 @ 119 is stock. Modified 996TTs are considerably faster. You will need more than heads and cam to beat a modified 996TT. On the other hand, the mods for a 996TT cost a ridiculous amount of money.

and you cars sounds INCREDIBLE, don't see to many Porsches or exotic cars around here, for instance, i've seen 1 959, maybe 2 996s, a couple at most turbo 911s, two lamborghinis, ten, at most, ferraris, and a couple lotus espirits. IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. If they make a TT911 i don't think i've seen one.

He didnt want to go from a dig because..... HIS TIRES ARE TOO EXPENSIVE??? That is so lame. If you can afford a 160k vehicle you can afford new tires each week.
I'm not trying to say you would have beat him if you wouldve raced from a stop, but that is a sorry excuse.
Typical Porsche driver...

It was kinda weird to have two races at that high a speed.....
Am I admitting I got wooped? You guys can be the judge.
I'll try to relate as best I can.
I didn't go looking for this race but I couldn't help myself.
It just happened.
Two races in one year. A record for me.
My youngest brother is pretty good with sheet metal and he had
constructed a new ram air intake mounted underneath and next to the
radiator inlet. Almost in front of the right front wheel.
The reason? Well the reason was I was stopped by one of the State boys
and given a ticket for no front license plate even though it was
displayed in the right front window.
I was using the original location of the front license plate as the new
ram air inlet and I guess they didn't like it.
The truth? The truth was that perhaps my attitude got me the ticket.
Be that as it may, we started to test my ZR1 with this new ram air
concoction on a high speed run.
With a bigger inlet, I noticed an increase in power at a much lower
speed than the front license plate inlet provided.
Well, we had just come out of a restaurant and were over looking under
the ZR1 at the new air inlet and checking clearance and the mounting
brackets before the next run when this young fellow pulls up next to us
in the parking lot in a Black, 911S Turbo.
My brother says, "I know this kid, his Dad is a pretty big farm operator".
The young fellow says, "you guys having problems"?
No, says I, we're just leaving for home.
The guy asks, "didn't this year vette come with a 300 hp
350"?
I said "yes, they did".
He asks, "are you running a 350"?
I say "yes, I am".
"Well, he says, how would you like to try your vette against a really
fast car"?
I said,
"Aww, you'ed cream me easy in that thing".
He say's it would be just for fun but he wanted to do a rolling start so
that he didn't do a number on his expensive tires.
"Well, what speed did you want to race to"? I asked.
He says to me, "you'll know", and smiles.
I scratch my head.
My brother shrugs and says "be carfull" and heads down the highway to
his favorite overpass to keep watch.
The kid says he'll honk his horn 5 times and then we go.
I nodded and hop in the car and follow him out to the onramp wondering
what I got myself into.
But, Heck, I really just wanted to see this thing go. It really was a
beautiful car. The kid says his old man paid
160 grand for it.
I don't know, that seems pretty steep, allot more than my wife spent on
my Vette, that's for sure.
Well, we wait by the side of the road for the traffic to pass by and
then my brother gives me the "all clear" on the two way.
No traffic to speak of....I check my radar detector and make sure it's
adjusted for "high pork".
We roll out side by side and parallel each other around 20 mph.
Honk, Honk, Honk, Honk, POW!!! Off the kid goes. The SOB, I thought, he
went on 4.
Not that it mattered. I got a great launch from 20mph but the kid jumped
out ahead of me by at least three car lengths and then started pulling
away from me even though I was giving it every thing I had.
By the time we reached 110mph, he was five car length's ahead of
me....WOW!!
In the quarter mile, I would be distroyed.
Well, It wasn't that bad. At 130mph, he stopped pulling away and I
started gaining, very slowly.
It wasn't until we got to about 140 that the gap started to close allot
faster. Man, I was going nuts.
At just under 160 mph, my front was about even with the back of his car.
All of a sudden, I see the kids emergency flashers come on and he starts
to decelerate.
I think perhaps he hit something or that something went wrong.
I decelerate and fall in behind him and we get off at the next exit.
It was the one my bro was waiting on and he backs down the exit to see
what happened.
I get out of my car and walk up to the 911 and say,
"Damn, that was fun". "Hey, I said, what happened"?
The kid says, you got your *** wipped Old Timer, that's what happened.
I chuckle and look to see if he has any rear view mirrors.
I smile and say, "Ok, it was a blast".
The kid says, "well, thanks for the race, I'm out".
He pulls out and damn near runs over my brothers toes and heads down the
ramp.
My brother excited as hell, says, "did you beat him"?
I watched the 911 disappear North bound and just looked at my bro and
said "I'm not sure".
Well, we turn around and head back to the restaurant to discuss the race
and on the way back my bro is trying to get me to race him in his F150
truck.
Man, I was laughing so hard I thought I was gonna stroke out.
Well, was that a weird race or what? (the 911)
Was it mean of me to let him leave thinking he raced a 300 hp Vette? I
don't run any stickers or badges.
I didn't lie to him and I didn't try to BS him.
He just seemed to have answers for all of his own questions.
Win lose or draw, It was fun to see the 911 do it's thing up close and I
admit I was a little envious.
It sure would be great to be in my early twenties and have that kind of
money and car.
Don't worry, though, I am counting my blessings and there are plenty to count.
