Lost To A C5 Vette

Lost To A C5 Vette yesterday i was on my way to pick up my wife and i noticed this grey vette riding me close, he then jumps to the right to pass me 
i dropped it to second and nailed it. i could see the front of his car at my door. he stayed their through second, when i grabbed third i started to slightly pull on him, we hit traffic and shut it down. he got behind me and i could see him smiling, he followed me until we got to the light, the car next to me turns then he pulls up 
the light turns green and we both look at each other waiting to see who would jump first, then he hits it a second before i do, so now i'm playing catch up 
he has 1/2 a car on me through first, i grab second, mid way through second i pull to his front tire, i grab third and i loose 1/2 a car and i'm at his rear tire, then damn he shuts it down 
as we slow down he tells me he was very impressed with the goat, he did not expect me to be with him, he then gave me the thumbs up and turned at the next corner 
i think had i hit it at the same time as he did and shifted faster from 2nd to 3rd i think i would have taken him.......i guess better luck next time

Wait doesnt the 05 Goat Come with the LS2? I think that you would be able to pull on him if it was a stock C5 but then again he could have been lightly modded. Im just wondering because with just headers and a catback I am able to edge out my buddies 01 C5 who only has a catback, and we are both 6speeds and can drive about the same and everytime I get him by about a car or so and im in a 98z28 so that means no LS6 intake unfortunately. Either way nice runs and as everyone has said throw a cam in there and it will be a totally different story next time!

I was at the track Friday night and there was a 99 C5 auto Vette which was stock except for air filter and mufflers. He was running 13.1X @ 109. There was also a brand new (400 miles) 05 GTO M6 and he ran a best time of 13.1X @ 107X. That GTO is only going to get faster as it gets more miles on it. I was impressed!

i'll post some pics when i learn how i need help on that someone
the shifter on the GTO is notchy, you can miss 2-3 real easy if your not careful......so i was being too careful. i only lost ground to the vette during my ugly 2-3 shift.
