From my personal experience this can go either way. Race him from a dig, you'll have the advantage against his DOHC motor, it's really peaky and loves to rev. You'll take him out of the hole and he'll try to catch up, but I don't think he'll make it. Stock vs. Stock the LT1s were a little faster than the cobras, the cobras having 305 FWHP and LT1s putting down about 310-315 FWHP.
He has no power down low, even with his stick. Race from a dig and you'll have him. Just get those gears in and you're golden. without the gears he might take you.

Throw a suspension under it, with a good driver vs a sub par driver in the ls1 and I could see it going the other way.

A 96-98 DOHC car is a very good match for a like-modded LT1, and not that far off an LS1 - when properly driven (admittedly hard to do). Personally, my old 98 Cobra went 13.6 @ 104 bone stock (stock tires). I never modded before selling it for a 99 T/A. However, a few have dipped into the 11's with bolt-ons, and one has gone as quick as 11.3 with stock internals (no power adder).

Cant be true, if its not a LT1/LS1 it is impossible to reach 11's with anything else...f-bodies never seem to lose on this site, unless its to a motorcycle or another "MORE HEAVILY MODDED" F-body

so I haven't had time to put them in, what do the 97 cobras usually run?
