Hey, a buddy of mine has a 95 M6 Firehawk that is completely stock and I have a 98 A4 Firebird Formula with a hooker catback the rest is stock. We are going to race in like a week and I'm wondering who would win, I was under the impression that the LT1s are nothing compared to the LS1s but he seemed pretty confident that he could beat me and he has owned an F-Body much longer than I have. Also he told me that the Firehawk he has , has the highest option package that was available at the time if that helps at all... He is a friend so its not like I am dying to win I am just curious what you all think the outcome would be

Well, I would say kind of, he has had the car for like a yr and a half and has put less than 1000 miles on it. I dont think he knows how to drive it to race tho...
I raced a 96 SS 6-spd w/Loudmouth when all I had was a Magnaflow cat-back, 99 TA auto w/2.73's, and he was one length until 50-55 then I pulled on him until we slowed down at around 115. I think you can take him.

do you know if you have 3.23's (GU5 RPO Code -door jam) or 2.73's (GU2 RPO Code- door jam) if you have 3.23's its for sure
basically your battling a mid-lower 13 sec 1/4 mile vs. a high 13-14 sec 1/3 mile
you should have all advantages especially if he isnt very familiar with drag racing w/ a stick shift

Natronathon, There were something like 27 LT4 firehawks made but only in 97.
His 95 hawk w/ the "options" was rated around 300-310hp at the flywheel i believe but in the hands of a good driver it could turn high13s easy
I think you have a good chance of winning but you never know till ya try.
Let us know how it turns out
I ran a 6sp 97Z in my 99Z a4 Z (both had similar bolt-ons like CAI, exhaust, etc) from a 50 mph roll and didnt catch him till about90-100mph but then we went from a dig and i dusted him but he spun a good bit

I should be racing him and some punk in an 82 camaro that thinks he can beat me ( I'm not worried about the camaro at all) June 14th at Route 66 in IL. I may get either a lid or some cutouts before then so that should help quite a bit... Also it may seem like a dumb question but I dont know, When I'm racing is it better to have the TCS on so I dont sit there spinning my tires or is there some reason thats not good for racing ?
the TCS bogs down your car, turn it off and learn to launch.
If he can drive good, he'll take you until you learn your car. As long as his is an LT1 and not and LT4. If it's an LT4, you're screwed.
He'll have you from a dig until you get up there near 100 MPH, then you can probably walk him. LT1s are MEAN stoplight to stoplight, the torque curve peaks at 2400 RPM with around 325 foot-pounds, then stays STRAIGHT all the way till around 5500 if I remember correctly.

When you say learn to launch you mean learn to punch it without spinning my tires? I am pretty new to everything LS1 including rear wheel drive and more than 140 horsepower
I think im gonna disagree and give the win to the hawk.
Is the driver of this car named Justin? If so, you might loose. The reason i am saying this is because the 98 A4 is one of the lowest dynoing ls1 cars and you are going up against one of the strongest lt1's. So if he knows how to drive, i give the win to the lt.

If I had to bet my last $20 I'd put it on the LS1. Two cars with the same mileage with the same trani and driver puts the the '98 on top slightly. The other variables make it a driver's race.
Good luck.
Good luck.

No his name is not Justin, but close it is Austin, and I'm not sure if he will even race me anymore, I talked to my brother about this kid and found out why he never drives his car. He had a V6 Firebird before the Firehawk and wrapped it around a tree and now hes kind of afraid of speed I guess. But we will still see what happens
[QUOTE=25thAnnivTransAm] LT1s are MEAN stoplight to stoplight[QUOTE]
They are a bitch when they have a stall and gears in a stoplight race. I have raced alot of my freinds ls1 cars and usually kill them off the line and they "Reel" me in.
