I think you will win. I think many people are forgetting GM underrated the F-body LS1s. So while the hp on paper is very similar 300 hp-hawk vs 305 hp-formula, in actuality, it's more like 300 hp-hawk vs 345 hp-formula. Plus, you have atleast an exhaust while he his bone stock. And last but not least, if he is not a seasoned drag racer, he may come out too hot and spin too much while all you have to do is come out at idle and smash the accelerator. Autos will almost always hook better than standards. Good luck.
LS1 will win. FOR SURE. If he IS stock...you will win. Yeah...its rated north of 300, but that LT1 might put down 280 at the wheels...MAYBE, however the LS1 should put down more than that and actually the 'almighty LT1 torque' is not a factor, because you make the same torque as him. You just have a more linear feel. Go kick his *** seabass....

I think it will come down to the driver. Both cars should be making about the same amount of power at the wheels.
Factory ratings don't really mean **** when it comes to F-Bodies... c'mon guys, everybody knows that. I love you fool who talk so much about how underrated the LS1 is, and then claim that the LT1's power ratings are magically 100% accurate..
GET A CLUEEE.
But yeah. I'd put my money on the Hawk. He's had his car for longer, and the thread starter wasn't even aware of the fact that he should turn TCS off to launch properly.

being a beginner driver though the auto should help him....if the other guy can drive the manual good it should be close until about 50 or 60...i know LT1's can be quick but theres no way -- stock m6 lt1 vs cat-back a4 ls1....the ls1 should jump out in front and pull him continually
but anything can happen on the street...well see

The M6 is very strong and can whoop the ls1 a4 easily. My friend's stock lt1 ws6 a4 ran 13.7, so im sure this guy's LT1 can do just the same.
My brother has near stock 97 Silver WS6 LT1 M6 and could not even touch me when my 2002 A4 WS6 was stock. You should have him from a roll and dig. Dont worry.
Have you ever race an M6 LT1 vs a A4 LS1 on the highway? Because of the gears, the M6 has the advantage and pulls harder, and i had an M6 LS1, so i know what im talking about. Secondly, because his is a 98, it dynoed less, as someone mentioned earlier, which isn't really to his advantage, so if the firehawk dude can drive good, then i think its a decent race.

If you do race at Rt. 66 then take my advice. I had the best results at that very track by doing this:
1). Tire preasure in the back at 35 psi.
2). Remove jack and spare (duh).
3). Put it in 3.
4). Don't try and stall it up. On stockish power and stock torque converter it'll only increase your chances of blowing the launch.
5). With one foot on the brake and the other waiting patiently over the accelerator just release break and floor it on green. They prep the track pretty good so you should have minimal wheel spin and get a 2.0-2.1 60' every time.
I think your car is going to be mid 13's @ 103-104 and his likely is high 13's @ 101-102. It'll be close but if you launch well I think victory is yours for the taking.
BTW get a Lid. $75 bucks for 10 rwhp and it only takes 15 minutes to install. Good Luck!
Like I said I raced a hawk with a decent amount of work. Here is where I am sure the LS1 would win. The hawk I raced was a M6 also, and I have an A4 with 2.73's! We went off a roll which totally gives the advantage to the M6, especially at a 40mph roll! We went and we were dead even! So any of you LT chumps think this car will hang with the Formula, you are wrong. A modded hawk could not pull on my STOCK LS1!

Wow, I was surprised this thread was still going, but as for when its going to happen, it was supposed to be today but it looks like its going to rain, maybe tomorrow at US41. Remember I don't think this kid can drive manual for **** so don't call it a drivers race...

whens this gonna happen?
