Yeah, they did. From a true 350 LT1 to a 346 LS1.

I love the 03-04 Cobras, I will probably buy one some day. I still hate the Mach 1 though.

I love the 03/04 Cobras, but not as much as a c5 z06....

Mach 1s and GTs are funny....The Cobra is the hot blonde at the bar that everyone wants....Then you got your average chick that people go to when the blonde rejects them (Mach 1), then you got the fat loud chick that no one is interested in (GT)

i respect the new cobra's a lot...i haven't seen any really pushing the limits though (past 800-1000hp)...in all fairness i don't really go out of my way to look. i would actually like some links if you cobra gives have time to some crazy power 03/04 cobras...mainly the ones i see have KB's and maybe a nitrous shot on top of that...but usually fall short of the 800rwhp mark.

they are cool cars with a lot of potential, but more than anything i like the powerplant more than the whole car...afterall i own a formula.

i don't want to get into a what's better argument because that has been beaten to death, but if you are looking for something newer to make fast i can't really steer away from gm...98+ fbodies are too cheap these days, and for the money you have left over before you reach the price of a 03/04 cobra you can probably squeeze out a 800+ blown/turbo street car fbody...

im just drooling for a low compression forged bottom 408 with a huge turbo or blower...

Its not all about speed fellas. Even if a LS1 WS6 was slower than a '96 GT I'd still rather have that over an '03 Cobra because I LOVE the way they look. Don't get me wrong, the '03+ Cobras are bad *** cars, I just love the looks of the WS6. Speed is nice too, but where I live (used to, but will again) I can get my car taken away from me permanently if I get caught street racing 3 times. Hell, they can even take it if I get pulled over 3 times with an aftermarket cat-back.

I have respect for the 03-04 Cobras as well. Before me and the ex wife split Aug of 04 I was looking and entertaining the thought of buying one for her, or should I say "us" LMAO. I have never been fortunate enough to meet up with one on the street, just not many around my neck of the woods. I would LOVE to get a crack at one, just to see what happens..... If I didn't have an LS1 car, 03-04 Cobra would be in my garage for sure.

Bolt a blower on your car and see what happens.

Nearly 2 years ago I was racing a '99 Corbra with a Vortech running 10 psi. I was in my '01 SS with the Vortech V9G, and aftercooler and the 9 PSI pulley. Anyway, one of the guys pacing the race, actually "unofficially" racing with us - it was a 3-lane highway - was in a nearly brand new '03 Cobra. We were set to do the agreed upon 40 MPH punch. A 4th car honked us off and we all hit it. Well, the '03 Cobra couldn't even keep the two of us really even in sight! We just left his *** from the punch.

Point has been made, but the rest of the story is: the Vortech equipped '99 Cobra put up a fight all the way to about 100 MPH and then I just smoothly pulled away. Got a bus length (4-5 cars) out in front, held it to 140 and then shutdown when I was confident the outcome was plain as day. The '99 Cobra evidently had run his mouth at a few people because the spectators were happy to see me give him the smack down.

KB Cobra's are so overrated...

I keep kicking myself everyday the fact that I purchased my 02 GT in Oct of 01 before hearing word of an 03/04 and it would have been decked out as well.

Any hoot, I just imagine how Camaro guys would feel if they would have put a SC'er on your LS1's; safe to say they would have taken to mods like the 03/04 do and your guy's faces would have lit up just like the 03/04 guys.

And for the record, this isn't a hit, I am being serious, wished it would have happen cause there is less of a rivery now with no Camaro/TA's coming off the line.

No **** huh, i am still somewhat in disbelief that GM pussied out of the msucle car game. I mean the corvette is sweet, but not cheap and easy to mod like an f-body was. Now we have the Cobalt SS, 5.3 v-8 monte carlo SS, and the 5.3 v-8 Impala SS, wow what muscle cars those are...

I've beaten several blown LS1 Street cars (f-bodies and y-bodies) at the track in my DD Cobra in street trim (since I don't have a race trim). I've also lost to a few.

Properly installing a blower (with all the required supporting mods) on an LS1 will not automaticlly put you in front of an 03-04 Cobra, even with a 1 liter advantage in displacement and a weight advantage.

my proper install has kept me in front of every 03/04 I've encountered

most will only race from a roll cause they cannot get off the line right.

there is one cobra that puts down 885 so i've heard. that's fast.

It sure won't... IF the Cobra has been modified or blower on the Fbody is some puny thing, much smaller/less boost than the typical/popular kits like the ATI P-1SC or D-1SC or the Vortech V9G. The blown Cobras are really easy to make fast: smaller pulley, some tuning and exhaust. Then they run like a scalded cat.

However, I don't know why you think the F-body has a weight advantage. More like a disadvantage unless I am missing something here.

Not to worry though, gas hasn't hit a high to cause the HP wars to be over just yet. I think we will see yet another line of Camaros and or TAs; just wondering what platform and how well rounded they will be and if they might bring back a 327 (346 too) or something and slap a blower on it to make it interesting.
