Back on topic: If the guy wanting to bet $5,000 is a good friend of yours then I wouldn't take the bet. If he is just some Joe Schmo that is obviously uneducated when it comes to LS1s then I see no wrong in taking his $5,000 from him after you win the race. Just imagine what you could do to your car with $5,000.

definately run for the $5000. you will no doubt be able to beat the car in a race. and you said they agreed that if your car breaks or you have a flat or somthin gay that it doesnt count as you loseing. so why not just smoke this guy and get your $5000?

How does this mustang guy have 5k to put up. He doesn't sound very smart, especially running his mouth when he doesn't know what he's talking about. If he had the kind of money he's talking about, he'd be driving something nicer, or make his mustang faster. He won't pay up, just do it for the fun and the glory of being able to laugh at him everytime you see him.
I laughed at the SC430 when they brought it out at the autoshow in 2001 and they had us guessing at the top speed. We started at about 175 and had to keep going lower until the lady displaying it got embarresed enough and just said 149! Everyone laughed.

my buddy brought his moms 430 to the track one night, grated we were only running 1/8th, I would be surprised to see it run anything under a 15 sec 1/4. his car ran a best of 9.9xx in the 71-73 mph range. Not 100% on the mph, but I am close. My old 2000 s10 4.3 v6 5 speed ran 9.7s with a few minor changes (cat back, msd ignition system, modified air box, and crank pulley). My best 1/4 in that truck was a 15.1, so I doubt you have anything to worry about unless this thing is modded.

I took my truck and had it dynoed there. They make some serious stuff there, seen a is300 putting down 850whp. I would of never believe it if I didn't see it on the dyno where my truck was too. Some serious interesting stuff. They also do the sc430 and others there too.
This place helps lexus's race division and know what they are doing.
It's very possible your buddies who has the cash may have his modified. If it's bonestock, he's not going to touch you, but if he's putting up 5k, he may get some work done to it. Check out the stages, you will see what a computer change, etc can do to these things.
All I can say it's amazing after watching that dyno run on that is300.
