Default The Cops and a kill AHH!

The majority of my buddies were in town for the holiday and some of them have some very quick cars. So we all grouped up and headed to a friends house. So in the driveway this is what we are looking at

-95 Probe GT with single Turbo
-95 Rx-7 with twin turbo (260HP don't know if wheel or fly)
-Don't remember the year Eclipse GSX with all-wheel drive and turbo
-and my SS

So we all look each others cars over and have the camera's out etc...and we start lining up at the stop sign and timing each other from the sign to the driveway, Well we do this several times and I do a nice roasty burn out in front of the house. we all pull back and shut down for a while and the cops show up at the house. One city cop one county sheriff. He asks who owns the SS and of course I tell him I was the driver. He said the mayor lives down the road and called in saying we were drag racing and wreckless driving on ELM street. I told him we were just showing each other our cars and weren't doing anything to crazy. He told the sheriff he had things under control and he left. So the City cop just stands there and talks to us for like 30 minutes+ looking at our cars and complimenting them, he told us that if we were interested in racing we should go down to the county road because thats the best place etc.. he explained that he had a 97 Trans am and that he knows what its like to have a fast car, he just had to put on a show for the county cop and so the mayor would see him talking to us. Anyways my buddy got the cop and everything on tape too it was funny. So later that night we head out to Brush College road. Which is were I guess everybody races on Saturday night. There were guys out there putting $100+ on races. I think I was the only V-8 out there. Just a bunch of Honda civic SI's and integra's etc... I think I might have been the only domestic out there also. Nobody talked to me once about a race. I think they all knew who was boss. But I watched a Turbo civic SI, run my buddy in the RX-7 for $20. It wasn't even a contest. Tay-bob (RX-7) just plain left him in the dust. They were racing on a newly asphalted road by a local community college. It was a nice road to race on very straight and flat and completely dead at night on a saturday. I see why they race there. After sitting there for almost an hour and no challenges I decided to leave. I said bye to my buddies and drove to head out to my Girlfriends place. I get a couple miles from her place and see a new Dodge Daytona truck. Black stripes running down the side etc...I get up next to him and check out the 5.7L hemi Badge on the side. Its a kid most likely 18-20 and he's having fun with the truck. He kept tryin to fish it on turns etc...fun to watch but I wanted a race. I waved him over into the parking lot of the Harley davidson shop. He said he just bought it and it had like 345 horse and like 385ft/lb of torque. I asked him if he was interested just for fun in doing a race from 0-60 or so. He was cool. I followed him out to route 51 and we lined up. He counted out to 3 and we both nailed it even. No traction at all! it was horrible and it was sad because I left him sitting there and spanked him all the way to 60. I thought it would be more of a challenge but It was more like racing a civic. We pulled over on the shoulder and I asked him if he wanted to go from a 30mph roll. So we lined up again got to 30. Three honks and we were off. Much better this time, but I still spanked him up to 75. We pulled into a gas station and popped our hoods and showed each other what we had. He was all stock excluding a borla exhaust kit. He felt very confident about his truck and got my cell phone number and told me he would be calling me when he got some new rims and tires, and a functional hood etc...He said he suffers from the dreaded one wheel peel syndrome and would be putting a new rear end on it. I still think I will flat out spank him again, but he seemed as if he knew what he was talking about.

Thats probably the stu stu stupiddest thing I have ever heard. Isn't the stock SS slower than a 350 Z? Well it is when a rookie 6 spd driver is driving it and has absolutely no idea on how to drive and the 350 has a pro driving. But if that is not the case than thats like saying isn't a low 14 second car is as fast as a low 13 second car, oh that is what you are saying I just seen a stock 02 SS go high 12's in the GM High Tech.

Now if you were being sarcastic, which I really hope you were, sorry, but if you were serious, you need to do a lot of reading on this site before you say something like that again.

No I just used to have a friend with an SS who would always complain about its performance. I just figured a 350Z would be faster.

lmao, that is some funny ****... i dont even know where to start about that lame *** thread... seriously, we are all "meatheads" with "shitty resale, unreliable, ugly pieces of crap", that is all obviously personal experience/opinions, i myself have owned my LS1 for about a year, and honestly have not had a single mechanical problem with it... i also happen to work at a nissan dealership, in service, and to tell the truth i notice sometimes that about 75% of the cars behind the shop ready to be serviced/have been serviced ARE indeed 350z's and 300zx's. this does not mean that the 350z is ****, it actually has a very strong motor, which the motor itselfwas awarded the "strongest v6" or something in like 2004 i believe... but for near 40,000$, common now, i bought my LS1 for 8g's... ill spend the other 32k in parts, and kick the z's *** up and down, anywhere, twisties, straight, it doesnt matter. and i dont see them as being rich kids that are interested in "ricey turbos", who says turbos are ricey? look at alot of f-bodies, with turbo/supercharger setups, its called a power adder, it doesnt matter what car/motor you have, a turbo is a turbo, nothing more.

and the absolute most amazing comment... was the "If everyone only cared about speed there would only be ricers with NOS. Sorry there is more to a car purchase then its fast. Like reliability, resale value, beauty, legend status, presitige, etc etc. ..." you've got to be kidding me... a Camaro or Firebird is so much more popular than a 350z, or any "z" car at that, look at all the old shows with old muscle cars, and look at all the other newer shows using muscle cars, odds are the car in the show is either a chevy, dodge, or ford... you dont see them jumping bridges in a ******* 280zx on dukes of hazzards do you?

Wow... a seriouse race against a stock truck from 0-60. Then i rematch from 35-70 because of traction issues. I could stab it from a dig in first, not even shift to second, and the inertia alone would probly take me to 60mph. It goes to prove its all relative.
Anyways youll have even more fun if you find a more challenging opponents. You have wound out third gear in your car right?
Have fun, be safe.

Just an FYI, the enthusiast model Z (one step above the base) retails for about $29k, and comes with LSD, cruise control, traction, and all the useful stuff in any model 350. And saying you paid $8k for your LS1 is useless in comparison, since you're taking a USED car and comparing it to a brand new one. How much was your car brand new ? Now do you still have 32k to spend ?

yeah it isn't really isn't a valid comparison

used car with whatever 100k miles on it or brand new car with warrenty etc.

the used car OF COURSE is a better deal. In 4 years you'll be able to buy stock 350Z's with 100k miles for 8k and the stock LS1 cars w/100k miles can be had for 6k = 2k difference or whatever.

congrats on the good deal. Still an older and probably abused car though

yes i agree that there is no comparison between the 2, but that is my personal preference, and do they really go for 29k??? thats cheaper than i thought, i remember hearing 40k around alot, but i dont know.

and ya, my car is a 98', it had 80k on it when i got it, and the guy was loaded and knew nothing about it, except for "it has a v8", i told him the wheels are alittle off balance and he offered to give me 100$ cash to go get them balanced lol.

also, i actually got the opportunity to drive a 350z roadster 6spd a couple weeks ago, i got on it hard, didnt feel like much through the shifts, but then i realized i had traction control on... so i turned it off, alittle better but after 2nd gear it just didnt impress me, those damn things are just too heavy, which is a real bummer. i have nothing against the 350z, i just get tired of seeing them all day at work

yeah the 350z roadster is a pig and stock is well...stock

the Z might have been 40k when they were brand new. It was crazy back then. People flew across the country to drive home in their new Z that was way over MSRP

base Z MSRP is $26800 and is the best one to buy for modding. The enthusiast one is about $2k more and has a lot of extra features (xenon headlights, VLSD, traction control (to me not a "feature"), and other misc stuff
