Mustang owners take it personal when we lose to LS1s, mainly cause to beat an all bolt on one they need more then they thought in the first place(i know urs is stock..for now). If you DO lose just remind them what it took to beat you and if you dont lose to badly (maybe a car length to being somewere right next to him, almost even) remind him that your still a soda bottle ahead of him in displacement and that when YOUR mods come, his time will too.

p.s. put that intake on...now

I'd bet on the Ls1....But what do I know??

FYI.....Unless he is on a slick, that car is going to go NO WHERE on the street with a 4.56 gear.....

My best friend owns a 99 cobra withy a solid axle, pretty much the same **** you listed... I trhink his best is like a 13.3 without powershifting....

Even at the track, well preped, he had trouble hooking his car with I think a small gear(4.30's or in that range) on a 315 nitto....

steal the hit

LoL indeed.! i raced my buddies 98 cobra and beat him pretty bad. his mods were- anderson powerpipe. K&N, ported and polished MAF and accufab TB. Borla exhaust, off-road X, 4.10s, sways removed, JET chip, and i cant remember the rest. Oh by the way we went from a roll and a dig, a few times and i beat him every time. And that was when my M6 was more like a M5, because I didnt have 4th gear. so i was bouncing off rev limiter in 3rd.

But the way it sounds, These guys are prolly putting their biggest baddest mustang against you, so just race him and see how u do thats all

And what's this taking losing to an LS1 personally? Maybe some but i never have but then again i've always loved LS1's win or lose i always liked seeing them move.

more or less your up against a mach1, if he puts the power the ground hell pull you until about 60-70 mph then it will stay even you may even pull a bit up top. If they do win and act like jack offs kill em with kindness.

I dont take a loss to an LS1 personally, i dont think, only happened once and i wasnt pissed or ****, he even jumped me from 2 cars back, and i was in the wrong gear, but at the light i didnt say **** about that to him. He even accused me of having a blower lol. (Yes, he soundly beat me, but if it had been fair i think i woulda pulled him)

I hate Nittos. AWD cars can spin all four with Nitto 450s even at moderate power levels.

And I dont buy for a second that this car is not running either a built motor or a power adder. Or that like 12 Ford guys are not giggling in a garage somewhere as they do every little trick in the book on that Cobra right now. Did they say it was a 4.6? Maybe they neglected to mention that all those mods are honest...on a 5.4.

Best bet IMHO is to hope they get all excited and completely screw up the launch with 4.56 gears. I mean damn. Full on Ford factory backed road racers run on 4.40s these days. Thats psychotic on a road car. 4.10s are really pushing your luck on the street.

How so? You just have to run a tall enough tire to compensate.

i run 4.10's and a 27" tire every day. I get 20 mpg+ on the highway with the mods in sig. 70mph is only 2750 rpm or so. Not excessive at all.

3.90's here on a 26" tire for daily driving. I'll run a 27" slick at the track.
It's the perfect gear for my setup IMO.

I love my 4.10's. They are about perfect for me as well since I try to shift around 6k ish. I have not run it yet, but i should go through the traps at around 5500 or so in 4th.

I also run 3:90's. They work pretty well....... I have yet to run this setup at the track. I plan on running with a 150hp shot too.

As far as the Mustang race goes.......you need to get a bottle and call it a day. It these guys are playing you, and they probably are, your gonna need way more than an upgraded intake.

Well I'm probably the closest comparison to this 99 cobra in question. 4.56's is alot on the street but when I air my nittos down to 14psi they hook pretty well. If he hooks he'll holeshot you then the pressure is on you to reel him in. Most likely he is only going to race until about 115ish which will be close to redline. If he really has those gears I doubt he has any nitrous. But again just run him. It's all in fun, that's why we do it.

Oh and what's with the loosing to LS1's taking it personally? Hollier than thou it sounds like to me. -Mark

Thanks for the input guys! We were going to race Friday night but he had to back out for some reason. Houston is very spread out and he's on the other side. I found out (they told me anyway) that the Cobra ran a 12.5 on street tires.(Kumho exstas(sp?) which are still on the car.) If it's that similar to a Mach, I've already pulled one with 4.10's, OR X and catback. Ultimately I just remember that these are the same guys that got all giddy when that GT fired up 'cause it was gonna whup my ***. Thanks guys and I'll keep you posted when this goes down. -Dave
