Default I've been called out!!

So i smoked that Mustang with the 306 the other night in my '00 Z28 M6....well now all these Mustang guys who just can't handle losing say they've now found a car that'll take out me and my pesky stock Z. They've settled on a '99 Cobra. I figured that'll be easy. With more poking and prodding, it has just gears and exhaust. What gears? 4.56's. Anything else? Oh yeah, an Anderson power pipe, upgraded TB, and electric water pump. Anything else? Oh yeah, the IRS is gone- has a solid axle now and SFC's. Supposedly that's the end of the list. Maybe I'm being optimistic but I think I still might have a chance. They say it's full race weight is 3,700lbs or so. What do you guys think? Am i being set up? Those Slowbras sure aren't that fast from the factory. I've smoked a couple stock ones pretty easily. Help is appreciated. -Dave

P.S. I have an LS6 intake sitting here if you guys think that could make the difference let me know.

You will probably take the cobra, but he may get you due to the gears and the solid axles helps. If he hooks well we has a chance. The cobra is not a slow car, but stock vs stock id put my $$ on the LS1. Be sure to post the reuslts, whether you win or lose. I would throw the intake on, it will help.

I think you're being set up. Anyone who does a solid rear swap has done it for a reason beyond better hook -up. I could be wrong though.

Also, put the LS-6 intake on. If you can, get a lid and a throttlebody real quick, That would make the manifold really shine.

Good call. I swapped out my IRS in favor of a solid axle because
I grenaded it with a **** load of power/torque...well over double the
stock output of a LS1.

Be careful...

You could always remove the intake entirely and put a nylon sock over the throttle body...just for the race though.

Sorry guys I forgot to mention I do at least have a SLP lid. Did the FRA mod too. Beyond that it only has a Slowmaster muffler. I was thinking the same thing about the solid rear. You don't just wake up one morning and decide to do that.

I would be skeptical man. They are putting you together. Go find a buddy with some spray and put it on for the race. LOL.

Gears, solid axle, power pipe, electric water pump yeah like everyone is saying your being setup. I'd be leery to race that guy, myself the only reason i thought about putting an electric water pump, and a powerpipe on my car was cause i ran outta mods to do unless i went to a bigger motor or something like that. Unless it's a powerpipe for supercharged purposes.

I don't think you have this won. I also had a 2001 Mustang Cobra only mods to it were 4.10s, SLP Catback exhaust, MAC Intake. My best pass at the track was a 13.1 @ 108 w/2.0 60 ft. Mine might have been faster then other but I never had any problems with stock Ls1's or close to it. Cobra's of that year are all about the driver cause IRS is horrible and if u can't drive that car won't do anything for you. Being he has solid axle he should be able to get out of the hole STRONG. With the 4.56s thats a stout gear and I think he will get you by several cars but thats just me. Not biased cause I have owned both! haha But now have an ls1

You, dear sir, are about to learn that there are scarier things out there than a bolt on LS1...

there are also scarier thing than a solid axle 99 cobra also. just race the guy, see what happens. with his gears if he has a tire he'll murder you out of the hole, doesn't mean you won't catch him but only one way to know.

Id cut the muffler off, it will help. Some may call it *****, but hell, he is probably lying about the car, so go from a roll. Takes his launch out of it, and go from a high roll, like 60+, takes his gearing out of it..you win when he runs out of gear..lol(puts on flame suit)
