Stealths have potential just like DSMs. Stock they arent too big of a challenge for a good driver, but stock ones are harder and harder to find. I ran one at the track, it had 80k miles, and some bolt ons (boost controller, intake, exhaust) and it ran a low to mid 13.

I dont think they are ugly, but I would rather have the 3000gt

A guy here sold a 95 VR4 for 13.5K in CHERRY condition with 90K miles on it. looked PERFECT! (ran the same). I saw one article where they got a 13.0X out of a VR4 (new) Never saw a repeat of that one though...fluke?

do some research....

most stealth/vr-4 are capable 13 sec cars with just a $15 boost controller. these cars are not known for their top end but at 16psi i can easily run away from my ls1 and that car isnt too shabby. I've also pulled easily on a zo6. I'm not the greatest at lauching my car but even I'm pretty consistent at cutting high 7 second runs on the 1/8th at 16psi.

bad points of these cars. yes they are heavy. the stock turbos suck, can barely hold 9-10psi to redline. the engine can handle lots, but the drivetrain isn't the greatest. i think a bpu stealth/vr-4 would give a modded ls1 a good run IMO.

Stealths and 3000gts are quite underrated. Stock they make 300HP and 307TQ (1991-1993) or 320HP and 315TQ (1993-1996/99). Considering they're AWD, definitely quick. The downside is the 3,800lb curb weight. The only time I've heard of a 3/S having trouble with stock ls1's was with a ws-6. But I don't know too much about ls1's, so feel free to correct me.

And plus, they're both downright sexy.

as with any car they can be formidable if you spend a little money on them.

bone stock mine ran 9.00's in the 1/8th and 14.00's in the 1/4 but that was before I really knew how to launch the car properly so I probably could have shaved off a few tenths at the 60'.

I installed a K&N fipk, wal-mart .99cent aquarium valve for a boost controller and busted out some 12.60's all day long. Now that's good bang for the buck A sane person would have left it alone because after that I needed larger injectors, exhaust, turbos, piggy back computer, down pipe, underdrive pulley, lighter wheels, clutch and command over the tune to make the most of it. That got me 11.50's @ 119mph ~ 20 psi of boost to redline.

Now I'm taking it to the next level, larger turbos, headers, cams, cam gears, heads and a front mount intercooler. It should be able to run over 30 psi to redline and move much more air doing it since it's less restrictive on the intake and exhaust side. I'm hoping for some 10's at 130's in the 1/4 soon and it'll ride/drive/sound like it's stock

A healthy stock Stealth TT or VR-4 would have no problem waxing a stock LT1 unless you were spraying...and by healthy i mean one with a properly opperating boost control selnoid, thats running the stock boost

Oh I thought he meant would he have problems while using his 100 shot. If you're not using that 100 shot you'll get beat most likely.

Looks aside....

You guys need to educate yourselves to avoid being very embarrassed while showing off to your girlfriends. Locally, we have a LS1 club that races regularly. It is obvious that it is not easy to make them fast. Granted the LS1 cars can be made fast, but it is much more difficult w/o NOS.

This is one of my runs from last fall.

Not my fastest, but the fastest video that I have.

Not a shop car either....just some knucklehead turning wrenches in his garage.

You too also should educate yourself. If you think that it's more difficult to make a LS1 fast without Nitrous.

there's many ways, turbo, supercharger, heads/cam setup.

When i was bone stock, i beat one from a 55mph roll by about a bus length to 120. nothing to worry about IMO. Oh ya, he at least had exhaust work, other than that i don't know.

Thought I remember reading back in the day that the Stealth/3000GT are notorious for expensive transmission problems when you build 'em up, is that true? Also that above pic of the yellow Stealth......not so sexy

Your list is not *more difficult* than a boost controller? You must be really handy.

heavy they may be but i have to say that they are gorgeous. I had $50 worth of crap on mine and it ran twelves. Not to shabby if you ask me. I liked my vr4 better than my camaro but I still liked my camaro as well.

You're missing the point. I said that it is *more difficult* w/o NOS to make the LS1 fast vs. the 3Ss.

A completely stock 3S with a manual boost controller (5min to install) will run 12.6-12.8s at 105-107. Throw on a pair of bigger turbos, injectors and fuel control ($1500) and you are in the 11s....with stock exhaust!

What do you have to do to the ls1 platform to get into the 12s? I bet it takes more than 5min? If so, then by definition, it is *more difficult.*

I don't think that was your intent to say your reguarding time by that post. Because I didn't read it that way and I am probably the most open minded person here.
