Default 05 GTO Vs LT1

I'm not sure if anyone remembers, but I posted a while back on my LT1 Z28 Vs a GTO. In my post, I explained how I wasn't sure if it was a 5.7 or a 6.0. Everyone told me "most likely" it was a 5.7 for me to pull on it with my mods. I have LT headers, matching Y-pipe, Moroso CAI, LT4 KM and a tune) The race went something like this.

I was coming up to the light and got next to him. I wasn't sure if he was going to race or not. We started rolling a little bit when the light changed and all of a sudden he got on it. (he was about a half a car in front of me when I hit it) I got a late hit and started spinning a little bit. Once I got traction I stayed with him, then in second I started pulling and we were even, then at the end of second I was about a half a car in front and when I hit third I was about a car length in front.

Well, today I got to find out exactly what it was. It was an M6 05 GTO 6.0. The guy ended up coming to my work and I was talking to him. I mentioned if he remembered racing a Z28 and he did. I asked him if he had ever ran it at the track and he did. He told me he races autocross as well. (He's more into that than quarter mile I guess) Anyway, he only ran a 13.9 @ 104 he said. He told me he spun pretty bad though. (obviously) I'm still shocked though, I thought the 6.0's ran at about 108. Maybe it was a hot day or he can't dirve...Although, I will say he can shift well. I saw him take off and he hit the gears pretty hard.

I'm surprised no one else remembered my old thread.

You ran a 99 Z28, in your full bolt on 95 Z28 and beat it. That's pretty impressive.

If it IS 2005 it is only a LS2 6.0.

You would be right. Although, none of us were sure what year the car was. I never got a good look at the car to determine whether or not it was an 04 or 05.

By the way, is it normal for his GTO to be running at about 104mph in the quarter?

I don't think I've ever seen a stock one do that well in the Quarter....but with just a few mods....they are a very capable contender.

ls2 gto's should trap around 107 with a decent driver. 13.9 @ 104 is pretty bad for a ls2 gto.
