VR4's are very capable cars if you can avoid slinging a rod or bearing, respond very well to anything but also weigh a shitload,I test drove one a while back, the owner was like it will do 120 in third,(6 speed)I was thinking ye whatever sure, well I nailed it through third and hell ye it did 120 in 3rd, I was like holy ******* ape ****.would have been a quick car but it was skipping very badly, nearly as slow as my grand am.Also a guy i went to school with about 5 or 6 years ago just bought a mildly modded vr4 a week ago.was once a quick car but the owner he detuned it before selling it now has boltons and a few more things. Well the 2nd day he had it, it was pouring oil, popping out of 3rd and 4th, clutch was slipping, and the turbos were cutting out.Thats how much hell he gave the car. What a ******* idiot
In 1999 the prices were:
Z28 21k
Corvette 38k
3000GT VR-4 44k
They took a base 25k dollar car and put another 18k worth of performance parts on it. Stock for stock they are faster at virtually ever speed than the LS1.
Though they are parts eaters, I assume that is why they quit making them. I guess they didn't want to get sued/forced to do anymore recall crap.
How many 3000GT VR-4's do you see on the street anymore?
Like the Evo people disbelieve they can beat an LS1 in the quarter stock for stock. I mean they take the cheapest product on there line and add like 16k worth of turbo and suspension parts. Yeah, I guess they should win by then, hell the RS doesn't even come with a radio.
Imagine if GM made a Cavalier with 23k worth of performance parts... nah, maybe it is better they don't. The Lancer Evo at least has a kinda cool name, GM would have to call it the Cavalier Overpriced Mutant.

So under his boost RPM he is running at a nice low engine stress level and he doesn't brake his rear-end having to use sticky tires (like me).
Give a car its kudos where it has man.
Plus he can run twin turbo's AND keep his AC.
Hell Evo's hit 700 hp with its whatever they call there rear-end equivalent stuff. Plus they can get scary with 4 drag tires equipped
they they still look like a cheap econocar with a bodykit

90-93 were 5spds. 94-99 (new headlights and later different front fascia) were 6spds
The thing is that a single PSI makes a big diff. I was out with my freind working on the fuel curve for his Talon last night at 20PSI. I was sitting shotgun looking at a laptop and not even thinking about how fast it felt, just focused on looking for knock and/or pulled timing and I still notcied the difference from 18PSI to 20PSI. And thats on a 122CI motor. VR4s are 183CI. So a 14PSI car is significatly different from a 16PSI car.
Similarly, a boost leak here and a worn out knock sensor there and you have a 20PSI car getting owned bad. Mitsu knock sensors can get old, leak the gelatinous medium out of their interior, and just start reporting knock out the *** all the time. My POS sensor tells me I have 43 counts of knock(the max the ECU is capable of detecting LOL) when I'm at part throttle in the middle of 3rd no boost on premium gas. My car is a dog right now because it doesnt know what timing advance is. @#$#@%%^%$#@! If it was knock, my car would have died about 50 times over by now, I drive it an average of 70 miles a day....@!$#$#%@!$!!
Basicly you will see those cars ad most other turboed applications be a bit less predicatable day to day. Personally I like predictability, which is why my car will have bomb proof intake piping and a new knock sensor LOL.
As for LS1 versus 6G72 (VR4 motor). Different strokes. The LS1 will make more on less boost and take a nice big shot easaly. The 6G72 can handle more boost overall. The LS1 and a lot of VR4s are now similar in price. The LS1 will have lower miles though. The VR4 can blow out a T-Case. The LS1 will eat its 10 bolt sometimes.
Basicly get whats more fun to drive to you. They are great competitors.

I would rather keep the LS1 the 3000GT is to 80's. Like an old 80's MR-S.
Plus it is a HELL of a lot cheaper to repair an F-Body due to availability of parts+aftermarket.
Though a purple 3000GT with NFSU2 bodykits looks pretty cool on my X-Box...
