What times would a stock 87 Olds Cutlass run?
There is a guy at work that has a stock 87 Olds Cutlass. All he told me was it has a 350 and a rebuilt tranny, and says he will win against me. He asked me if I wanted to run them tonight but I said, "Not tonight".
I'm not worried about him, but anyone know about what times they run in the 1/4? I'm thinking 15s or 16s.

I think it would have to be an exceptionally well maintained one to run 16's. If it's stock, it's not running 15's. I swear I thought by '87 they were putting 305 Chevy engines in those cars??? Didn't they start doing that in the early 80's?? Forgive me. I'm old and that was a long time ago.

Are you sure it isn't one of these A friend of mine called my car a Monte Carlo yesterday when I picked her up for dinner. It's also been called a Cutlass as well. Oh, man I wish I had a 350. I only have the V6 engine...

It definetly did't come with a 350 stock. Even if its a half way decent built 350 you will rape him. He's probably also got the old peg leg going to. At best he might be mid 14's with a decent 350. If it still has the stock 305-307(not sure which olds had) your looking at mid to low 16's. Either way you will rape him, just run him to like 40mph where you will allready have bus lengths on him and then save your gas and let off.

The guy sounds like he's too ignorant to waste your time on. My truck would probably beat that.
I don't know what they were running in that year;that's part of the dark era.
The only Olds 350s I've heard of had nothing to do with the Chevy line of small blocks.

I was going to ask him if he wanted to run them tonight just because he won't shut up about it. I had to work late tonight, so maybe tomorrow...

442s came with 350s. My dad's friend had one. My buddy had a 83' firebird, 305 under the hood. 307s are older than that. The 305 replaced it.
my buddies cutlass had a 305 in it. Extremely slow. It ran 17s stock. But it was beautiful. He had 225k on it and it looked like he drove it off the show room floor. He cleaned it every weekend. No doubt the cleanest car I have ever seen.

Cutlasses came with a bunch of different engines, but from 84-87 I believe they only came with 231 V6s (Buick made) and 307s. As far as I know, no Cutlass ever came with a 305. The 307 was 140 HP in base cars, and 180 HP in 442s. The 140 HP 307 also went into V8 Buick Regals. The 305 is a Chevy motor, and it was shared with the Pontiac Gran Prix V8s. The last time a (gasoline) 350 was available in a Cutlass was in 1979 I believe.
The best that a mostly stock 307 Cutlass could hope for is high 15s, and that would be a 180 hp 442 with stock 3.73 gears. Most other Cutlasses came with something like 2.14, 2.29 or 2.41 gears. It wouldn't be a big deal to swap in different gears or a 350, or a 455 for that matter, but you'd probably be able to tell from the sound of it if it was something you had to worry about...and then it wouldn't be stock. The last stock Cutlass that could hit the 13s was made over 35 years ago.

cool site too check. Pontiac used the 305 in 83. Buddy's firebird had it.
And my friends car didn't run anywhere near 15s. I'm sure there was some factory freaks. Maybe something was wrong but the other friend had a berretta gt that smoked him all day long. It ran high 16s, lol. We were all high school buddies and hung out all the time.
As for the 442 ,you are correct depending on model year, the 350 was an option in the early years. Dad's friends was a 76. Damn, they put a 2.3L in the later models, rofl.
