Default I went for a kill....

This was my first race in my Z28. I've had it for around 2 months. It's basically stock, with 3" straight pipes from the cat back. But with my stereo and body kit, it probably performs like a stock Z28.

I'm driving through gate 4 leaving the base at NAS Norfolk and I see behind me what looks like a newer Mustang. Judging by the wide aggressive stance I figure it's probably a Cobra. Well he does a fly by of sorts, because he wants to race. I see that he has "SCT" badges on the right rear, assuming that means Supercharged? Anyways, we make a left onto a street which is basically a half mile long, straight as an arrow. Well there is some jackass in a Buick Park Avenue in the right lane, so I have to pull behind the Mustang. The light turns green, and we both hammer it. I'm right on his tail basically all the way up to 100. I don't think he pulled more than maybe half a car length on me. Well lucky us! We catch a red light. We both line up side by side, I'm thinking "Oh man I finally get a chance to race this car!"

The light turns green...and what do I do? Smoke the **** out of my crappy bald *** tires. He didn't smoke his tires at all. Needless to say he pulled a few car lengths on me as I was fighting to regain control.

So I'm not really sure if it's a kill or not, but it was damn fun!

"SCT" or was it SVT? Someone chime in here and clarify if there was an SCT mustang produced. I would think a stock SVT would pull more than half a length anyway. Nice try with the race and better luck next time.

The SVT badge is supposed to be on the left rear, this clearly said SCT on the right rear. From what I've read in google, it's an aftermarket company that specializes in PCM tuning, and a few other products. This was either an 03 or 04 Cobra, because I could hear the blower whine under WOT. I was real surprised I kept it so close too, I figured I'd get whooped.

This just makes me want to take off the body kit and lose the stereo even more...and get some LT's and a lid!

Yes. SVT is on the back left. SCT is a company that sells handheld tuners and tuning software. Did it have dual exhaust and also was the bottom 3" or so of the rear bumper between the exhaust painted black and it would have said Cobra on the back bumper.
Anyway, better luck next time. Get some new tires.
I roll outta gate 5 everyday I'll let you know if it was a Cobra or not

Remember......you dafted him....up to 100mph.

Side by side it would have been different.

Drafting is huge.

I had a guy in a stock F body LS1 stay with me on the freeway from 45 to 120 because he stayed right in my slip stream.

When we got the to the light we were side by side. He was kind of a dick and was like, I heard those thing were supposed to be fast.

I asked him if he ever heard of drafting...I then said "read up about it, it will explain what is going to happen when this light turns green"

Walked him by 4 or 5 cars up to 100mph. And that was when the car had less the 1000 miles on it.

This was inthe V, I just had the Intake Headers and Exhaust on the dyno the day before, so I wasnt stock, but right now my V should be a 13.0 car.

It may weight 500# more than its big bro the Z06, but it has much lower gearing.

That's why I was surprised, but honestly I don't think he would have walked all over me... Even if we were side by side, and I didn't have traction issues, I think he would have only had me by maybe 2-3 car lengths up to 100+.

The rear of the car was solid grey, didn't see any black. The Cobra was painted black though. I could hear the supercharger screaming, so it had to have been an 03-04. The guy just waved and made a right, I made a left. So we didn't get a chance to talk.

I'm still impressed that I kept it close. Considering it probably has damn near 100hp more than my car lol...

If you would like to set something up Pm me.
If I lose the title will be "MACH 1's suck"
If you lose insert LS1's.
But seriously, without all the bs let me know. It would be fun.

A modded Mach 1 vs. my basically stock Z28 with a body kit and heavy aftermarket stereo? I don't think it would be very close. What kind of hp does a Mach 1 have? It's around 300 stock right?

Maybe if I ever get around to removing the body kit and getting a smaller stereo setup, and some tires...yeah I'd race you then. But as is I don't think so

Doesn't sounds like an '03 Cobra to me.

Definitely not an 03 cobra if it was as close as you claim. Sounds more like a mach1.

I was basing my opinion on the appearance of the rear fascia as he described
it. Maybe an '01?

All depends on the car and the driver. I had a stock 97 Pontiac Gran Prix GT (not GTP) 2 door (stock except K&N filter) that stayed even with a Mach 1 (manual) from a 20mph roll to about 75mph. The Gran Prix also outran (not smoked) a 95 mustang GT and a 99 mustang GT (both autos though) from a slow roll to 90mph. The Gran Prix was rated at 200 hp and the mustang is rated at I believe around 285 hp and is lighter. Some cars are just built better than others, doesn't matter the maker from what I have learned. By the way the Gran Prix had between 150,000 and 184,000 miles on it on all the races.

I think your case was that some drivers are better than others. I can see you staying with that 95 gt. But that mach should have ran...not walked off, and left you in the dust
