Lotus Elise
I pulled out of my job parking lot tonite and im sitting at the light when i see a lotus. He's a car in front of me in the next lane. So when the light turns green we both turn and at the end of the turn i floored it and let the cutout scream in his ear as i drive by. I didnt think he would play but to my surprise he floors it and goes by. So we both get on the freeway and he's behind me riding my ***. Im in 3rd and i let the Rpm's get to about 3k and i see him switch lanes and punch it. So i wait and let him get to my door and i hit it. Because of his momentum he had me by half a car and then i reel him in and shift to 4th. I proceed to put about 4 cars on him and then he let off. I waited for him to catch up but he just disappeared. It was a fun run he had a passenger and i was alone. The car felt very strong tonite. Its perfect nite to run the air is real cool.
PS...I dont know how fast the Elise are but i assumed it should be quick. Can someone enlighten me on how fast they are?

They can be pretty fast, but it's more about handling and grip. A stock 190bhp Elise/Exige will generally lap most race circuits faster than a 400bhp manual Z51 Corvette C6.
They are also mid engined so then can launch very well, most of their speed comes from the 0-60 dash. Et's are respectable but the trap speeds won't generally be that high. But they simply where never designed for drag racing.
The 240R Supercharged model sold in the UK is quite a bit faster and will lap most race circuits as quick as a Ford GT or C6 Z06.

Yeah, the US spec has the Toyota 1.8L (and the UK spec now too unfortunatley) that puts down 180HP in the Celica and 190 in the Lotus. All top end. Even among screaming NA 4 bangers its relatively weak in the mid range. Of course it weighs like 1900 lbs so it does not take much to move the thing. Aggressive gearing too.
Nice kill.
I really want to see a turboed one. Some company makes a setup that puts it right in the tens IIRC.

Nice kill. Lotus Elise is one of my top 5 favorite cars. I really wish I could own one. They are really at home on a road course and are a true turnkey track ready car. They have enough power for their weight to be very entertaining (I've driven one) as they are a mid/low 13 sec. car at about 102ish mph. But the sensory experience of driving one (sound/seating position/wheel/pedals) makes it feel like a quicker car.

I watched a stocker take to the local track here in Michigan over the summer. 14.3's & 40's at 95-97mph.
This may not be a great indication as to there full potential, as some here have said mid to low 13's. Driver Mod?

They come with a very rev-happy 2ZZ Yamaha built 1.8L Toyota engine. They can make some serious power turbocharged, the quickest one I remember to date was around 700whp. Imagine that in a 2000lb elise, it would just be sick. Its a very strong bottom end, aluminum block and head, take very well to boost. They have VVTL-I which is variable valve timing lift-intelligent, people are still trying to figure out how to "lower the lift engagement" point, overall they are great cars.

I see these cars all the time but they dont want to play but this time The driver and passenger were two younger guys. I was happy to get some action with the Elise. I thought it would be a closer race but maybe he couldnt drive.

I am suprised that one tryed to race you, they definately dont have enough unless heavily moded or playing in some non stop twisties.
They are quite small... I am not a very big guy and it was still a tight fit inside one when I went to look at them at the dealer.

I hear ya. My co-worker has a red one. The thing is about the size of a go-kart. I guess that they fit right in in the UK but over here, they get swallowed up by big trucks and SUVs. Power to weight is awesome but if it were to be hit by one of these it would disintegrate.
