You might be a classic case of someone craving more power or a need for speed because I have a stock '02 mustang gt and I've hit 149 mph down here at sea level without much trouble. Your LS1 would make my car feel like a dump truck on top end.

4th gear is your last gear for decent acceleration.

The 8/98 issue of C&D was a 0-150-0 test. The stock Vette hit 150mph in 30.2 seconds. The Camaro isn't as aerodynamic, has a larger frontal area and smaller tires, requiring an earlier shift to 5th. It hit 150mph in 36 seconds.

Perhaps they can't hit 170... my point is the LS1's top end is excellent and while they won't be pulling like they did in 1-2-3-4... they will still pull especially if you used the powerband correctly.. if you are'nt spinning your motor up enough and shifting early you are working your way out of your MPH to RPM sweet spot once you get into 5th.

Spin that motor up.. it's an LS1.. they like RPM's a bit more than some older muscle car motors. The LS1 has decent heads on it... they breath rather well so it takes longer for the motor to run out of breath.

To whoever posted something about an LT1 walking on an LS1 on the top end... barring modifications... there is something wrong there.

XalanGR , you started this thread claiming your cars' power drops off at 120......then you said 130.....WELL, 130 is where a STOCK 6 speed shifts to FIFTH gear AND drops rpms.....YOU are not losing top end power. It pulls great to 130 right???
once in fifth, if you stay on it, as rpms climb the POWER will as well.
your first statement of no power at 120 is right at the most power (120 up to 130)!!!
your later correction of 130, makes better sense.

In many threads since youve sold your car, youve posted and stated alot of things about it.
Why the hell did you sell it?

ya you're car should be pulling strong. You should go watch a vid of a speedo run to like 150 and compair it to what you car does.

I know people say the speed is limited to 155, but Ive read that outside the 115mph limited models (non z-rated tires) that there was no limit and that the figure just comes from magazine tests of the days. Could be wrong on that, but its what Ive read.

which cars had the 115 mph limiter?, ive got a 2000 z but i got it used so i don't knowwhat tires where on it orginally so there are bfg t/a's on it now. never herd about the 115 mph limiter i thought all ls1's didnt have limiters?

I think atleast half came with the limiter... the only ones that didn't were the ones that came with the high speed-rated tires.

First reason was finances. I kind of got tired of driving round a loud/rumbling/shaking car.

Well I got a raise right after I sold it and now totally miss all the shaking/rumbling/loudness etc.......... I kick myself all the time.

You definatly have something wrong with that car. Mine has 180K miles on it all original motor and I can top out at 173MPH with only the mods in my sig. I can start off at 25MPH and before I know it I am passing 150 easily and the speedometer is still moving quick. Maybe you needed a push or something to get you going I don't know.

How do you know you can go 173mph? Not saying I don't believe you, just curious.

Did you buy your car used... if so, you sure you don't have 4.10s? Thats the only thing I think would hurt your top end is gearing > 3.73 unless there is a problem with the car. When my 3.23 A4 Formula was stock, I did a 60-154mph pull and it seemed to pull hard all the way up and finally I let off because it was getting scary fast. My friend has 4.10 gears put in his T/A and it lost alot of top end past 120 now, but definitely pulls harder down low.

Are you 100% sure that your car is completely stock? There could be chance that you have 4:10's and have had a hand held tune to adjust your speedometer and such. I know that in my Z with 4:10's, I can burry the speedo in 5th but I am sure that I am only at 130-140ish not what is indicated. Although I do have some power left at that point. It really sounds like you have something mechanically going on such as bad fuel or spark at higher rpms, or even your cluth/flywheel/pressure plate having some type of minor slippage at high rpms. Honestly, who knows, but if you are seriously racing all the time at those speeds just trade up and get a vette.

Just learn to drive that specific car and pull all the power out of it when you can. I hate running at high speeds and would much rather run from a dig anytime.
