They have trouble getting mid 14's with those cars, and they are even slower on the highway.
The 3.5's in the passenger cars are tuned for midrange and detuned from the factory to have about 30 less hp then its 350Z counterpart.

As soon as I seen the 3.5 badge on the back, I got pissed and floored my car.
I caught up to him, flew by him so fast I couldnt see his face, and held it down until I was about 1/2 mile ahead of him on the Thruway.
Lets just say he got a good wiff of my loudmouth, and he was flooring his car when I passed him.... that bitch was revvin....
Those cars got nothin in stock form.
For babywagons, they are damn fast...ill givem that.
And about the 270hp WRX's, yeah but with AWD they lose tons of HP, and without upgrades are easy pickens on the highway, the AWD kills thier topend.
Some of you guys are sounding like pussies.
And to the original OP, it doesnt sound like your car is running right. A skipping cylinder, due to failing opti, wires...whatever, can have serious effects on your cars performance.

But when my parents first got it, I drove the TA back home and my dad wanted to race and I beat it, he never got in front of me. but I didnt spin the tires hardly at all
A bad igniton wire will just ruin your day, I know cause my #6 cyl. wire is toast right now. I wish I had time to replace them today, but it didn't happen. Even worse I just had the SES light on for some reason, then I shut down and fired it back up and it was gone.
Anyone ever have a SES light come on from a arcing ignition wire???
Even with my wire issue my car isn't hooking well in 2nd, so I'd say your car desperately needs a tune up, I'm still spinning in 2nd.

it was funny my little brother was giving me a ride to the mall in the Nissan and some dude in a Eclispe pulled up and started revving with his fart can, and the Nissan blew him away, it was a mid 90s eclipse. I laughed so hard.

It's been awhile, but I'm pretty sure it was a '72. There was some work done to it, made around 450hp. I can't seem to find my 1 and only picture of it
, but here is an example:
Same color, same stripes... I wish he never sold it....
PERFORMANCE: It's not much of a stretch to say that under the hood of every Altima SE-R is the heart of a 350Z. They share Nissan's fine 3.5-liter dual overhead-cam, 24-valve VQ35 V6 engine. In the SE-R, it's tuned for 260 horsepower, at 6000 rpm, with 251 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm. Torque is developed at low engine speeds, for good real-world acceleration. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, with a five-speed electronically-controlled automatic also offered. The automatic, with which my test car was fitted, has a manual-shift gate, and can be used easily in manual mode. But, given the amount of torque from the engine, and wide torque band, D works just fine most of the time. A lower final-drive ratio than other V6-powered Altimas further enhances performance.
CONCLUSIONS: More than a little sport, and more than a little luxury meet in the Nissan Altima SE-R.

i would like to add my dad just told me that they are getting rid of my moms car and getting a race car altmia lol i was just wondering if i need a tune up that bad wouldnt i be gettind bad gas mpg right now i am still on the same tank from fri afternoon and thats with the weekends play on it and im almost to 250miles on this tank and i still have a hair less that quarter and if anyone could answer this: when the car is cold starts no prob butr when its hot it kinda knocks when startting like pre igntion people say its the opti but im not sure it could also be carbon right?
change the plugs, and check the wiresif they are all good then my bet it the Opti (cap and rotor) mine went out with only 74k miles
if you go to buy one i wouldn't get Accel again it's caused me nothing but trouble
the first 2 had bad Optical sensors and the last one the cap broke around one the the bolts holding it on (looks like it was overtightened)
My wife and I had a 02 maxima and I was pretty damn impressed with the power it had for a v6...pretty good low end, a little lacking in the midrange, but good top end power. My friend has a 95 lt1 ta and I know the 02 maxima would have given it a run for its money (too bad my buddy had blown his head gasket so we never got to race). I looked into modding the maxima, but I would have a bunch of mods (on the average car) before I would even break into the 13s. We got rid of it as the looks and the motor were the only things nice about the car...the rest of the package was ho-hum and it didn't even handle very nice. The only good kill I got in the maxima was a slightly modded wrx from a roll. I like the IS350 for a family car...too bad it's too much $.

With a good driver against a stock LT1 it would actually a fairly close race.
And you want to talk about V6's now a days being fast? How about that new IS350 that runs 13.2 stock behind an A5.

If you're getting a stutter or hesitation at upper RPMs -- something is obviously not right. I would most definitely do spark plugs and wires, fuel filter, and change all of the fluids (oil, coolant, tranny, differential).
