Give me a DOHC 4.6 over a 5.0 ANYDAY of the week... especially a fully forged one. What the '03 Cobra can make with simple bolt-ons is enough to split alot of 302 blocks in half

my buddy has a 07 gt and i ahve a 2000 ta and ive driven and raced both cars and the ls1 stock for stock will walk it fairly easy. not like ricer walkin but it will always take it. well except for if the driver sux. but yeah from personal experience driving both cars and racing them new gt's dont stand a chance against a ls1.

Not all '07 GTs have 3.55s like they did in '05. They switched to 3.31 as the standard ratio. And are they both the same transmission?

Well of course. But we weren't talkin 351-based engines... we were talking about his younger/weaker brother, the 302

True but simply switching to a D.S.S block ect, solves that problem. Same casting old technology but tried and true.Unlike the 4.6 the 302 pushrod motor wasn't critisized near as much for needing a power adder as much as the 4.6 period to take care of business. No doubt the 03/04 Cobras are the exception maybe even 3v's but the 2v no contest. The 5.0 rules as far as the 2v's are concerned.

Don't start this.

My final thought before I go to bed is I would take a current technology 5.0 (meaning DSS level block, AFR/TFS heads of choice, cam, and intake of choice) over any DOHC 4.6L motor.

Well I PERSONALLY like the DOHC 4.6, and it would be more than enough to meet my power goals. Now if you're talking about a fully-built aftermarket setup, why even bother with a 302 when you can do the same stuff to a 351W for basically the same price?

Hell it doesn't really matter. You can get a 4.6, 5.0, and 5.8 easily past 900rwhp. How much power do you need?

I have a D.S.S. 357 Pro Bullet level 20 motor with AFR 185s in my 92 Fox and a 418 probe industries shrt block stoker with AFR 225 race heads in my 85 GT. Love them, but the 04 Cobra "stock" heads and forged internal DOHC motor makes a bunch of power with all the right stuff and it sounds stock.

Better have a Dart/World or FRPP block for the 5.0 or 5.8...

4.6 easily past 900hp? How much money are you thinking of as "easily"?
900hp doesn't come cheap no matter how you look at it.

"Cheap" and "Easy" are not necessarily the same. the Forged 03/04 cobra motors can HANDLE 900 hp "easily". I think that is what Stopsign meant.

Pick up phone, call VT engines, ship them your motor, get back a forged longblock, install HP twin 67mm kit, install bigger fuel system, get it tuned. = Over 900rwhp.

Thats what I did anyways, seems pretty easy to me. I'm just in the middle of that ready to get my motor back.

um, easily means its easy to get it there. If you have 20K to drop into it, it maybe easy to get it there.
