Default stock LT1 beats lightly modded 95 mustang GT

I raced one of my friends today just to see who has the faster car. I have a stock 1996 Z26 M6, and my friend has a 95 GT with a CAI and a true dual setup.

We decided to just go from a 10 roll since he doesn't have any sort of posi. He jumped out to a small lead of about a car or two. He held that until about 70 when I made that up plus about another 2-3 cars by the time I shut it down at 110. I'm sure I would have continued to put a few more cars on him, so there was no point in going much faster.

He's probably a better driver than I am, but his car just doesn't have the power.

His car has inspired me to get an exhaust setup, though.

A 95 GT with CAI and Exhaust? Whats that, like around 230 BHP? I would hope you beat him.

He says it's like 250, but I'm not really up on mustangs. It just really surprised me how little pull it had up top.

you'll be suprised how much more your car will wake up when you get some of the basic bolt ons. Nice kill, good luck with modding.

Thanks. First up on my list is a CAI and a full exhaust setup. Then maybe some Gears.

Nice run, but Mustangs come with true duals from the factory...so I guess he just has some aftermarket mufflers. And I have a 94 GT with a CAI and weld in flows. The car is so slow I wanna puke.

I can beat a stock 95 GT in my Cavalier Z24. Not by much but I have beat a few. So I'd hope that an LT1 6speed would beat one with just exhaust and intake.

95 GT's are slow and all, but a cavalier? that should be AT LEAST a full second slower in the quarter, stock. normal cavaliers are 17 second cars.

good kill to the OP. beating a mustang always gives your ego a boost. i had to turn down a race with a saleen on wednesday. it was the '02-'04 body style, completely blacked out (tinted), and we were at a red light with no cars in front of us or around us at all with at least a mile of straight road ahead...but i was making an inspection trip for work and had to make the turn coming up i was so upset...he took off too after pacing me to 20 mph

Nice kill, but he does have "posi." Every V8 Mustang since the mid 80s I believe has had Traction-Lok, or "T-lok," as it is sometimes called.

yeah the 94-95 computers suck and mods dont help alot i know
my 95 has everything i mean everything and it on a 150 shot is a good race for my bolt on ls1.and the ls1 is a lil faster.your buddy is crasy about the 250 rwhp try 190 being generous.my bro in law had a 95 cobra with a b303 cam and it only made 254 at the wheels this was with eqaul length headers orh pipe and flows.
im suprised he pulled you out of the hole had to be a stick car with the 3.27 option

Yeah normal Cavaliers are that. A Z24 with a 5 speed and a good driver can pull a low 15. But I know from what has happened with more than one 5.0 that a Z24 can take it. A 5.0 GT is only a low 15 second car with a good driver.

Some can run high 14s. And take the Z24 to the track.

Yea , you'd be suprised .... theres a couple 5.0 SN95's around here with minor bolt-ons .... and they fall on there face at 70. Don't get me wrong you can make one fast with the right amount of money but stock for stock they aren't really impressive, especially up top. Ya know its crazy, after riding in plenty of Mustang GT's ... they'll put your head in the seat alot harder than most F-bodies IMO, so maybe thats one stupid reason why everyone thinks their quicker .... idk.

^ Well I don't know about that, an LT1 with a 6 Speed has a nice grunt to it, especially on low end.

To the OP good kill. I will say that your LT1 should eat an older 5.0 up and spit it out pretty easily. You should have no problem putting several, several lengths on a nearly stock Mid 90's Mustang.

I know that in 1996, the V6 Firebird with 3.8 and sport package which was suspension and 3.42 gears if you ordered the 5 speed, was more than.2 quicker than the GT.

And that same Firebird (or Y87 Camaro) would have no problem with a Cavy Z24.
