it has a nice interior, but IMO, the exterior is butt-ugly. especially the '04's. i mean c'mon, it's a ford taurus with a V8. such a lack of styling...i guess that's why it didn't sell well at all and they had to redo the exterior for '05 and '06 model years...and it STILL didn't sell...

 

Choco if you have under 280 thats sad, Im pretty sure your closer to 300 if your in higher elev. that would have been a better excuse...but anyway according to all the 04 owners their gto's always tend to beat f-bodys...but I'm stock and they have not impressed me..my buddy had one and hated it not to mention only could beat new edge gt's in it..he traded for a vette lol

No, it didn't sell well because (apparently) people in America can't appreciate a car for what it is. They hear "GTO" and they want ridiculous scoops and spoilers and ****... no it didn't "look fast" if you didn't know what it was, but the original GTOs were also very subdued looking cars (except The Judge).

 

I think with your boltons you probably make the same or a bit more at the crank, but maybe nothing significant - slight advantage to the F body

you will have less horsepower loss at the wheels- another advantage for teh F body.

you are also a couple hundred pound slighter- advantage to the F body.

I think chances are on your side.

lol, i wish i could tell ya fellas but the guy still hasnt gotten my headers installed, hes had my car longer than i have, i mean everytime its oh itll be done tomorrow then he calls a couple hours before i am going to get it and says the same thing, im really starting to get pissed off, so ill let you know as soon as its goes down

I'm not trying to hate on GTO's but I have 3 friends that had GTO's and they all had tranny problems and they didn't really like the car too much. They all got rid of it within a year.

 

what makes you think you would have a problem ?
you've got the same engine with more likely 20-30rwhp more given your current mods, plus your car is lighter, the GTO have little better gearing, but that's about it, is heavier and have the same engine with no mods at all. you would have to drive horrible and your friend have to be really good in order for you to lose. it could be close, or it could be a rape, is all in the driving for both of you, but you still have the edge. bone stock M6 LS1 GTO's are making around 300rwhp on average. you would see some in the 290's area, and some others in the 310's area.

 

if your friend can drive, it wont be a rape. but i think you should edge him out on the top end.

the only thing i dont like about my GTO thus far has been my narrow wheel wells. i can maybe fit a 275 tire in the rear but thats it. traction is very limited in first, and second gear i still get tire smoke on hard shifts. the gto is a well defined, refined automobile. it feels solid and study at high speeds and is comfortable no matter where your sitting in the car, given that not everyone in there is over 6ft.

P.S. This doesnt look like any taurus i have ever seen.

Thanks, but thats not my car. i just posted the pic to kind of prove a point. i believe the wheels are BMW CLS Rep 19x8.5 upfront, and 19x9.5 in the rear.

GTOs have the same transmission as Z06s, manuals anyway, so I guess those are trash as well? Maybe your friends need to learn to drive?
