Yea, the other car was fast because it had a big turbo. You are talking about a N/A car vs a boosted car. That is the magic of the Z06!!! Anything boosted can be fast and Japan did not invent the turbo. Turbos and supercharges have been around for years. Planes were using them in the 1940's. Imports have just been looking for a way to make their underpowered cars faster. At one point before imports were using turbos, they could not even accelerate onto a highway without having to worry about getting rear ended. My beater car with its 1.6L motor makes me cringe when I have to go up a big hill.

Let me just say...I was at a car show yesterday and a Z06 was parked two spots from me. Man!!! that car is unbelievable! You have to look at this car up close to appreciate what it is. That car is amazing. I could only imagine what it feels like sitting in a 3000 lbs car with 500 Hp. Props to GM for making that car. That is one impressive vehicle!! Sort of makes that GT500 look pretty sad in terms of performance.

 

Good kill but what's up with the granny shifting I heard ? Not trying to talk ****, your car would definately beat mine but you could have gotten him earlier with quicker shifts. They aren't nearly as bad as some others I have heard though.

 

I raced a buddy's 3000GT that had 550 awhp when my viper had 428/473..

From 50-80 I was in fronf by 1-2 cars. then Around 90 mph he's by my side and from that point walked me by 3-4 cars when we shut down around 140 mph..

Because the stock clutch in the Z is crap. For normal everyday use it's fine, but drive it hard (track or street racing) and it fails (pedal tends to stick to the floor). It's the weak link in the GM "supercar". Ask me how I know!!

How do you know ? You told me to ask LOL. I guess that is a damn good reason not to do it then. I have always and still wonder why GM just can't get it perfect on atleast one model of car. There is always something lacking somewhere in one of their cars. After paying what you pay for a vette you should be able to shift the thing like a race car if you are running someone. Don't get me wrong, for a performance car I wouldn't own ANYTHING else and never have, but if you buy a companies top notch car it should be just that.

True that. You can buy a stang for less than half the price of the vette and the stang can take a better beating. I keep replacing all the weak links in my vettes with better aftermarket stuff. I even replaced the CV axles in my C6 Z06(s) with C5 Z06 ones because they are stronger. Mo money!!

Scott, how much did you spend on the C5 Z06 half shafts and are they really much stronger and will take beatings without breaking in a 460 rwhp car?

I didn't mean any disrespect or anything and wasn't saying you couldn't drive. Hell, you could have underestimated his car and been giving him a chance. I know the reason now though. I didn't know this because I don't read much about vettes simply because I can't afford one LOL.

 

Awesome run. God help them if you ever mod. A simple cam package would be perfect. You would stop crushing hopes of light boosted cars and move on into angering turbo 331 Mustangs and huge singleturbo Supras and such

Bit of tech info for everyone:

1)3KGTs might be over 4000lbs with a big driver or two people in them. They are more like 3800 themselfs.
2)Over 500 on boost indicates a really well done 15G setup or better. Not exactly huge turbos. Not exactly tiny either. Two 15Gs is a lot airflow.
3)A small shot on a turbo car is more than just spool up. That 3000 likely is running 15Gs which means spool is not an issue. What the juice does is drasticly cool down the intake charge. It effectively helps your intercooler. And thats a huge help no matter what in a turbo app, especially on pump gas.

^ that will be interesting. Similar power to weight, aero goes to the Z. The Z uses better top end flow, the Cobra uses massive TQ.
