Default S2000 vs. LS1

on my way to the other shop one day about noon, I'm driving along and its a one lane into two, just before it hits 2 lanes I see an s2000 2 cars behind me comin up really fast and nails his brakes hard behind the guy behind me, there's a traffic light then it turns into two lanes, me and the guy behind me go in the left lane, I'm doing about 35mph, just cruzin waiting for the s2000 to punch it, he does, and I can see him open it to pass on the right, he gets past the guy behind me and holds into it, I was pumped, I finally get to race an s2000, well needless to say he had pleanty momentum comin up on me, just before he got to me I punched it, I could hear his engine sizzleing, he was about 3 car lenths ahead when I tapped 2nd and nailed third I got closer and closer, it was like he was standing still, it was so funny, the guy was watching me pass and he wuz pounding his steering wheel and I could see him yelling "c'mon go fasterrrrr", I laughed and hit 4th , and pulled on him so hard it wasnt even funny, he kept into it and so did I, I hit 130 before I shut down, then I slowed and let the guy get next to me, he yelled out his car "man that ****** thing sounds sweet" and gave me a thumbs up, I said "nice try", we laughed and played punch it a little bit more till we got to traffic.

A day or two later I saw that same guy in the shop and he said that he hoped I would wanna race him cause nobody else does, I laughed and said you'll need alot more than that to keep up man and I didnt even use the juice, he was like "holy **** how much $ you go in it?", I said "half of what you just paid for yours!", I think he was seriously thinking of becoming an LS1 owner! or on his way to spend more money on his pos honduh

First off, no one should be surprised at the outcome of this race. It is a no brainer. And calling the S2000 a POS Honda is a little near sighted. It is what it is....a sporty little roadster that took it a little further than the Miata. It is fairly snappy too. And it can handle like a ****. The guy was obviously cool and respected your car. It would only be cool if you respected his. When someone says...."that thing sounds sweet"....the common reply would be something like..."Thanks....nice car also". Instead of punkin' out on him. If he was being a punk, then be a punk back if you wish. But it seems like this dude was being cool and you were the punk.
Alright, I am off of my soapbox and done with the lecture. Maybe I took it all out of context. Flame away.

Nice kill. S2000's are pretty nice for hondas. I mean seriously how many hondas are RWD, come with 6 speed, and a push button start. Plus they look pretty good for an import not a bad car, except for the price. If I were him though I would drop an LS1 in there that would majorly add cool points. FLYNLO is right, even if chances are as soon as you leave his sight he's talking $h*t, if he doesn't say it to your face try to be nice. Besides we don't wanna stoop to their level. Great kill though.

I had to dig into him since he said nobody wants to race him and everybody he races he kills, but he could take it!, the ****** probably has enough money to put a damn ls1 in that thing, gawd damn that would be sweet, except for the honduh emblems, he'd need some bow tie's

btw, I know how the s2000 performs but c'mon I know a real hardcore chevy guy would spit on it!

True, normally I would spit on it lol, but I've been having trouble ignoring my conscious lately. I dunno whats gotten into me maybe I'm getting soft. Yea the honda emblems would be the first things to come off, if it were mine.

If I remember right, the S2000 has about 150 ft lbs of peak torque. I laughed until I cried when I read that, good thing they are light. My car has 330 ft lbs at the rear wheels by 2500 rpms, need I say more Torque is what accelerates your car, and the imports are usually lacking heavily in the torque department. Small displacement hurts torque. Anyway, at least you educated him.

I have a 02 S2000, (had a 98 C5, it had to go because of a growing family, and I couldn't afford a new C5 when I bought the S2000) and while it's good for a 4 banger, it's going to be slower than any LS1 powered passenger car.. I'm not sure exactly what a auto LS1 Fbody will do, but the C5 I had did a best of 13.55@103.96 2.15 60 ft at HRP(Hawaii Raceway Park) in 100% stock trim..

I raced a friend(he has a 01 TA auto with 3.23 gears and a aftermarket ram air hood) since it was slightly damp all he did was spin till about 40 mph(traction control killing his acceleration) and I'd got a great launch....I'd say by the time I was doing 90 he was about 4 leinghts ahead of me, so yep.. a S2000 Vs LS1 isn't going to be pretty for the Honda.. even a S2000 with a supercharger isn't going to be too much faster than a stock 6 speed Fbody.. and they go through rearends like a 6 yr old through a candy store..

Mine went 13.0 @ 107mph with only a lid & catback on street tires.

Nice kill. You should've been a little nicer to the guy. He sounds like a cool guy to me. The S2000 doesn't stand a chance vs an LS1. It's a nice little roadster though. I'll give it that. I have no problem with Hondas. They make quality economy, family vehicles. The wing, fart cannon, etc. is where the circus begins.

I've seen a best time of a 13.7@ 103 for an S2000. What people don't understand is that, Honda did not make this car to be a 1/4 mile monster. It was intended to be a track car, to keep up with the likes of Z06's, Porshes, etc.

By the way, 13.7 is very respectable. You say you ran a 13.0 at 107. Was that with slicks or drag radials? I think with some slicks or drags on the S2000, would put it deep into the 13's.

I'm not here to say an S2000 is faster going straight, just there are other ways for it to shine.

That story is kinda funny...There is a kid in my hometown here with an s2000. One night a couple weeks ago he was giving me the same line about nobody wanting to race him cuz he was so fast...needless to say...the rest of the story goes the same as yours! Rice and S2000's are

A 13.7 is pretty respectable for sure. Nothing to brag about, but very respectable. My 13.0 was on stock GSC's (street tires). Zero weight reduction except for the spare and jack.

That track better be tight with no place to air it out. Otherwise the likes of ZO6s and Porsches will smoke them. No disrespect to the S2000, great handling cars, but they don't have the top end pull to compete on an open road course.

My girlfriend's b'in law has one, a 2000, and it's nice and corners like a dream, but I'm guessing like high 14's in the quarter.

I think they will go like mid to low 13's with a supercharger.

It was neat riding 'gun watching Ted shift at 8700.

Actually, most of the magazines put the S2k high 13's low 14's at 100-102. With the blower, the best time I have seen is 13.0. With the turbo at 6 psi, it runs mid to low 12's. The reason it does so well is due to their high compression ratio, which is I think 11:1.
