Default Evo Roll On

Last night I finished tweaking my header install and fixed the dreaded y pipe knock, so I decided to go for a little ride. After about half an hour I decided to head home on Route 1 right past the Granite Run mall. Right as I mergered onto RT1 I saw an Evo, (not sure of the year, looked fairly new, still had temp tags) well needless to say I was kind of excited. I mean this is pretty much the perfect spot for a roll on, not to mention, I have had my *** handed to me by EVO's from a dig long enough that I will take any roll on chance I get. So I drop in behind the guy close enough that he knows I want to play. He doesnt hesitate and drops the hammer, with my tops off I hear his car wind up. I give him about 5 cars out on me at the time I foot it. We went up to about 130 with me pulling about 4-5 cars on him. I think he got scared because we were comming up on a long swooping turn. I took the turn at speed and he slowed down. So I dropped back and waited for him. Next time he pulls up to my door and looks over and waves me on. I didnt think an EVO would give me a jump in a roll race, but if hes dumb enough to do that I am certainly not going to tell him otherwise. I go about half throttle and start pulling, but I am waiting to hear him spool. I hear his turbo spool up and then I drop the hammer. I put about 2 bus lengths on him up to about 120. I shut down and he provides me with an excellent ricer fly by. But he realizes his mistake, slows down and throws me a thumbs up. I took the next exit off, as I am pretty sure I saw the fuzz comming the other direction. All and all, a good series of races.

My cars a 95 z, yank 3200 verter, moroso CAI, grot headers, built 4L60E, hotcam kit, zr1's nitto 555r's out back and 555's upfront. Im sure theres other little stuff but thats the basic jist. Spray's next thing on my list, probably just a 100shot or so, because I dont know when I will finish the 383 I am working on. The EVO was probably stock due to the Temp Tag thing. It had an upgraded BOV, but thats a 10 minutes driveway thing.

Also, dont take this story as me talking down about EVO's, there nasty little pocket rockets, and I wouldnt want any part of him from a dig especially with modding (But I'd still run em, what the hell ya know). The best 60 ft times I cut are like 1.7ish, thats slower than a stock clutch dump for that car (if he knows what hes doing). Theres no doubt in my mind that alot of this particular race was driver on his part. I drive a auto, so driver mod for me consists of hitting the loud pedal and waiting for the tires to grab. I give the guy props, because he was probably new to the car and still went for it.

how do you know it had an upgraded BOV, did you talk to the guy afterwards?

I'm not doubting your kill but you sure about the bus lenghts comment.
What kind of times do you run?

If he heard it then more than likely it was an aftermarket one. Stock BOV with a stock intake box is barely audible.

I asked the OP that question because its a pretty common thing for people to just pull the airbox lid off to get that BOV sound. But also because upgrading the BOV on an EVO, especially a new one like you saw with temp tags, does absolutly nothing to increase power. They are metal units from the factory and do not leak at all, you have an EVO so I know that you know that.

I will say that I am "assuming" that it was an upgraded blow off. My friend has a EVO that is bone stock, and its BOV does not sound like this cars. It was a sequential job, sound like 3 whistles. I have yet to run my car at the track with the headers or the stall, but my times with cam and intake and cat back were generally in the mid 13's, with a best of 13.4 (This was on street tires, 2.2 60's). Like I said, I am no EVO killer from a dig, but from a roll she breathes good. With new mods, I hope to break into the 12's if at all possible. I am pretty sure the stock BOV doesnt make the triple whistle noise I heard on this thing. Kind of sounded like my buddy's S.R.T.

fair enough, if it was a chirping or whistle sound I would assume the same.
Good kill.
