Question Beat a 07 mustang gt

So for kicks and giggles last night, i asked my friend Kevin for a race after work. We raced this 2 mile street in front of work only a few stoplights, but thats a given in SoCal. He owns a stock brand new 2007 Mustang GT automatic. My weapon of choice is A 2001 Trans Am WS6 M6. All i have done thus far is a short throw shifter, flowmaster cat-back, and a velocity throttle body stack. I beat him from the launch and the 2nd gear roll. From what I've herd and read about the mustangs they pack 300hp, so my question is why did i beat him so easily. From the launch i beat him by almost 2 lengths and from the roll i wanna say 3 lengths. Some answers would be greatly appreciated. Is ford just over rating there cars? or 3 simple mods to a WS6 create a mustang killer?

Automatic mustang. When it comes to GTs,its all about the 5 speed manual.Even if there are some fast autos,my point stands.
I doubt he wouldve dynoed over 290 rwhp stock,so just on paper, you already had the advantage.
A better race for you would be a M5 GT,w/ intake and exhaust.A tune might give the GT an edge

Well I also raced a 05 Mustang v6 supercharged m5. Belongs to my friend peter. For all of those reading and don't already know Orange County is infested by mustangs of all years, engines, and colors. But back to the race story. From the launch i beat him by 5 lengths, because the v6's don't have posi-traction. from the roll i was close until i got into 4th, then i just left him behind. He has a good set of mods on his car. Supercharger, computer tune, short throw shifter, magnaflow exhaust, no cats. so needless to say i was pretty proud of that win. Don't have his dyno numbers off the top of my head but ill be sure to ask him.

You should have beat him either way but he should learn to lauch the car with the footbrake ...and where it downshifts from a roll can really hurt or help a race. You would still win either way, just telling you so you can tell him.

You still had the advantage there and I would say in the power curve.Stock he would be around 175 rwhp/215 rwtq.Add a supercharger and he'll be right in your range, but not able to blow you away

hasn't the M5 'stang been the dominant version since the mid-80s?

back when the 5.0s ruled over TPI I could take every auto 5.0 around, the M5's (unless completely stock) would own me ('86 Z28 TPI 305 h/c/etc.)

thought the newer ford auto was a pretty good piece, clue me in stang guys

i believe 07 M5's dyno around 260rwhp and 290tq stock, so a stock auto should get walked everytime by a modded m6

Needs a stall and firm shift programmed. They are available now. Stock...not so impressive performance-wise.

On Two Guys Garage the other day they were doing some upgrades on a 07 Gt it registered around 265hp/293ftlbs.
