Default Raced a Lightning and now I feel bad

I just ran a kid that had just a CAI and a cat back and barely beat him. It depended on what we were rolling at. We didnt do any digs since there was a car behind us.

Race 1. 25 mph roll got to about 4 cars on him
Race 2. 45 mph roll got me by 3 or 4 cars. I was in third gear and couldn't get to speed quickly, should have rolled in 2nd gear but he caught me off guard. LOL
Race 3. 45 mph roll but this time was in 2nd gear and quickly pulled out but could only keep 4 or 5 cars on him.
Race 4. same results.

I was impressed with his car to say the least I stopped and talked to the kid he said the best et he has ran to date was a 13.2. I dont know if he was telling the truth or not but I have ran in the mid to high elevens fairly constantly. I have been having some AF problems lately so maybe that has added to me not just crushing the Lightning.

Should I feel bad he said he put down about 400 rwhp and 440 torque. This is the first time I have raced a Lightning. I have raced stangs with similar numbers and had a much easier time.

I wouldn't call 4 lengths 'barely'..not a murder, but not barely.

FWIW - for the CAI and catback....that is pretty spot on for a 01+ L..to run 13.2

Nice kills....

thats weird, with those numbers a lightning should be a low to mid 13 truck but if a stang has those numbers it should be deep in the 12s. so i sont know how you could have a easier time with them.

I think either some is up with your car or the lightning owner bs'd his real numbers...either way something isn't adding up...

Ls are very quick trucks. Some are giant killers. I agree with what was said above. The truck as modded should run a very low 13. If you run high 11s, you should have pulled pretty hard, especially if both of you were on street tires. Stangs with similar numbers should be a driver's race with you.

Something is not right.

If you run high 11s and he runs low 13s and you were 4 cars ahead that's about right. I ran a guy yesterday at the track and was one and a half cars ahead when we crossed the line. I beat him by .322 by the lights. So four car legths would put him right at a second behind you.

For a 4800lb truck I say he didn't do too bad. Good kill though. -Mark

13.2 sounds about right for those mods. I don't think those mods would give him 400rwhp though (don't they make about 340 rwhp stock?). Also, 4-5 cars is definitely not close. How long did you race for? For a 45mph to 90mph race 4-5 cars is alot. 45mph to 140mph and it definitely should have been more. Alot of variables involved.

I agree that 400 seems a tad high...but a CAI on those helps alot..a custom tune would help too...I would say he was at ~375. Very possible they weren't SAE corrected numbers or he was 'guessing'. LOL

If you only put 4 lengths on him with an M6 and you run 11's, either
A. He was lying about his mods.
B. Your car needs the a/f tuned

I forgot to mention that he said he has had a dyno tune and is running a little over 9lbs of boost according to him.

99-00 made 360fwhp and 01 and later made 380fwhp. So at the rear wheel stock you are looking at 306-326rwhp. My buddy has a 99 L and with a 4lb upper, CAI, and a throttle body he put down 355rwhp 450ish rwtq. I believe the tune was conservative. -Mark

4lb upper?..not lower?..Hmm.

And OP - I'll have to double check, but I believe 9psi is more than stock boost.

he told me that 8 psi was stock boost and with his CAI that some could expect and increase of about a psi or so. Again this is all according to him, I am by far not an expert of lightnings by any means. I was a fan of them before and I am an even bigger fan now. LOL

You have nothing to worry about man. 4 cars for only 45mph race that's a murder! This race took you what? 4-5 seconds... In my book 4 cars in 5 seconds is definitely a murder!

Update for anyone who remembers.

I took the car to the dyno shop because I thought I wasnt making enought boost. As it turns out I was making only 4.5 pounds of boost due to a bad blower pulley that seized up. I should have been making between 7 and 8 pounds. I was also running extremely lean up high in the rpms.
