I took me 98 Z28 out for a ride today since it was nice and I really havent been able to go out for a decent ride lately since i'm typically busy or because of the weather.. But today, The weather was perfect.. Not too hot.. Not too cold. I was on a 2 laned road and I was in the right lane.. I was doing about 5 over and I see a 2000ish cobra comming up in the passing lane. I gave him a thumbs up, and he then gave me one too. Seemed like a pretty nice guy. As he was pulling up to me I noticed his car was a lot louder and more bad *** then most cobras. I dont know if the cobras came supercharged, but I'm pretty sure this one was. I thought I could hear the wine from the supercharger/turbocharger (whatever he had in it).. I think his cobra was fully built though.. He then gives his car a little gas and speeds up a little bit.. .. I would never buy a mustang, But if I were too.. His would probibly be one of the few I would ever consider buying. He then slowed back down and matched my speed, looked over at me and so I downshifted (knowing I was about to get my *** kicked by a cobra!), and then he did to, And then he beeped 3 times and we both went. I then noticed he had nitrous... And he basically made my car look like it wasnt even moving. I couldnt even give a good estimate in car lengths how much he beat me by at about 120mph, But it was a lot though. He then slowed back down and gave me another thumbs up once we were back down to around the speed limit. So I then gave him one of these too, and he sped off once again. Seemed like a nice guy though and didnt really rub the victory in my face though. I bet he was happy to finally get someone who would want to run with him other than a ricer. I wish I could have met up again with him at a light and ask what mods he had in his car, but never got the chance.

From what I herd and saw though, My guess was a fully built Cobra (turbo'd/supercharged, nitrous, DR's, and a ton of engine work..). I would also bet he has a 10 sec. drag car too. I wasnt really upset or shocked that I lost to this cobra, but this race def. made my day though.

Hopefully I'll eventually see him around again or at a car show. Havent seen him at any yet, but i'm very curious to see what I lost too.

 

how do you know he had nitrous? my guess it was just a pullied 03/04 cobra. good death though.

I dont know if he had nitrous because I never got a chance to ask, but I was pretty sure he did though. I thought he had it because about 5 seconds after we started, His car started pulling away at a much quicker rate. I could be wrong though.. But from how the car sounded and looked as it was next to me (plus the many gauges I saw on the inside of his car..) and pulling away, I wouldnt doubt he had a nitrous set up in his car. I might be wrong, but either way, his mustang looked and sounded bad ***!

 

Hrmm....alot of people ask me if my turbo 4 is a nitrous v6 after I spank their *** .....

Maybe his was a GT with a body kit...a bad alternator and a little spray?

 

Im pretty sure every car I have waxed had nitrous and a turbo too. Good kill.

he prob started pulling harder once he hit full boost.

 

That could be a possibility, but I think he was still sprayin even though he didnt really need to because he was kickin my *** motor to motor. But we both started at high RPM's so wouldnt he have been at full boost when he started?!?!

 

if it was a 03 /04 cobra they make full boost around 3000 rmp with the eaton and even lower with a whipple/kb

Yeah.. I wasnt too shocked that I lost this race.. I was actually kinda happy that he did infact go and allowed me to see what his car actually could do. We wouldnt have even needed to race to have determined who would have won out of the two of us.. Both he and I knew he was going to win. When he went WOT for a sec as he was passing me after I gave him a thumbs up, That right there made me happy. But then seeing what his car could do going WOT for a pretty good distance and not just a quick little 15mph jump.. That pretty much made my day.

A H/C + 150 shot LS1 might only make 600rwhp. Plenty of LS1's with
that kind of power aren't even in the 10's yet. It's all about the setup.
Same goes for Cobras as well...and any car for that matter.

 

Does anyone have a general number of what kind of power the cobra could be putting down with the info I gave you guys?
