My cousin has a 98 Cobra with the Vortech non aftercooled kit. His car made 397rwhp on 10 psi on pump gas with a very safe tune. Car also has catted x-pipe, Bassani CB and 4.10's. It is quite a downgrade from his 621rwhp Whippled 03 he sold due to a child on the way. My other cousins 406rwhp Baby H/C (220/220 .581 on a 114) Formula pulls it in third gear by about half a car or so and even more so up top.

The catch is...it has a vortech v2 s trim (i believe...know its an v2) with the anderson (spelling?) powerpipe. He used the sct scanner and flash street tuned it himself. Its on like a 6-8psi pulley not sure, but i know it never goes over 8psi. He tells me he will be "crushing" 420rwhp at our dyno day at school, and will easily blow the doors off me.
....does he speak the truth, or will a stock longblock, stock heads, shorties with cats, x pipe, catback on street tire mustang be able to beat me 360rwp 370ft lbs trans am?
i know i know...race and find out but i dont have the car at school yet, and im curious if his "knowledge for supercharged cobras" is accurate.

My freind was spraying a 200shot at his cobra, and it held up fine!

A 200 shot on a stock 96-01 Cobra sounds pretty dumb to me. Like stated earlier, the pistons and rods are WEAK. They will live under a reasonable amount of boost with a safe tune.
The pin is already pulled with a 200 shot!

sorry to bring back the thread from the graveyard guys
....but the race almost went down except he (after all of us told him to wait to get it tuned/finish tuning it) beat on it hard in a 3rd gear pull and the car lost power then shut off. He pulled over and tried to restart and heard a low compression fast turn over. Alot of valvetrain noise, and what sounds to be like some other type of lower end noise.
I guess i win then eh?

Tune and NO I/C.
Andersen powerpipes help out alot, but the fact he isn't running a cooler negates that and then some. Unless he gets a REAL tune, and not his backyard test run BS tune, he should @ about 400, even with 6.5 psi. His 'test tuning' is killing him....the 10.5 is proof of that. He needs to put down his crack pipe, and have someone that knows what they are doing, tune it. I would guess he is running ~370 RWHP, given tune and no IC.
I have Q's for him though....if he is worried about his car, why is he experiementing with the tuning, instead of having an experienced person do it? AND Why is he NOT running an I/C? Does he have Meth inj.?
BTW - assman....I think you should do a combination....research online and call around. Nice tune and 8-9 psi on a stock short block with a centrif. blower is fine.

Then you beat the driver and not the car! The car you just gave an example of is easily a mid 12's car with a decent driver.

delsold....sorry to hear it....his outcome is what some of us suspected, sad to say.

well we started tearing into his car and realized what he had done! He had it running so rich from his "conservative tune" he washed out his rings and diluted his oil with gas. Spun 3 or 4 rod bearings, and kissed a valve and spark plug in a few cylinders.
I guess now he wants to build (hopefully not destroy) a 5.4 iron block
man...now im gonna hafta spray haha
