Default My first kill!!!!!!!!

Since buying my 02 TA in October I have been dying to do a little expressway racing. Lat night was my first kill. I was doing about 80 and a bike came up pretty fast so I started to pace him and see what would happen and passed him hen I did he got on it and so did I. I passed him the first time doing about 140. He said he thought he would go right by me, nope. Well I slowed down to give him a thumbs up and blows by me, wasn't expeting that. He got a pretty good jump on me so alright no problem. I ended up running him down and passing him and when I started to put the brakes on I had the speedo barried. This time he pulled up to me and asked him what the hell I had in my car, he couldn't believe I ran him down. We got off and talked at the next light he said he was doing 155 when I passed and I made sure that I did so I figure I was in the 160's somewhere. He was on 2001 Kawasaki reto style 1200 rocket he couldn't belive he lost and my leg was still shaking. But for my first kill it was pretty fun.

Good kill. Never tried to run a bike before, never even been above 130 in my T/A either! If only I was in Germany

Wow ... Good thing there was no bumps in that road .....

I would also like to know what you have done to your car. Most of the time us cars have a shot from a dig against a bike, since it takes alot of skill on the drivers part to keep the front wheel on the ground and the bike going straight from a dig. Normally from a roll however, they can give it full throttle and will usually walk away. They are geared great for highway rolls, usually have 6 speeds, and normally can go faster. Not to mention much less friction due to the smaller size. Most bikes, however, can outperform they're drivers ... which might be why you could walk past him like that.

Either way, nice kill

I am going to have to disagree with this line of thinking. I think it is quite the opposite. We all know that the bike's advantage is its power to weight ratio. That ratio is best realized from a dead stop....even with an average rider that doesn't launch as hard as a good one can. Once things are rolling, the power to weight ratio does not play as big of a roll. A Yamaha R6 is a solid high 10s bike with a decent rider. I have slowly walked away from one from an 80 mph roll. Even a harley is a mid to high 11s bike(based on what I have seen at the track), but they trap around 108-110. I have absolutely murded them from a roll.

In any event, great kill to the original poster.

you should feel happy about killing a bike, corse it was a kawasucki, I do 1.6 60' and 138mph in the 1/4 when my R1 was stock, I can get it up to 185 fairly quickly,
guys on bikes never think cars can out run them, even though it wasnt the fastest bike, good kill!!!

I have a few friends who have bikes, and I have personally driven powerful sport bikes (I'm not talking about hogs...only sports bikes). I have also raced quite a few bikes. They are extremely hard to keep on the road from a dig, and it takes a very good driver to actually maintain the balance between the power you have and keeping the front tire on the ground. Do we have any sport bikers here?

Keeping the front end down and not spinning out is cake, it's all in the clutch and your body weight. Keeping the clutch alive is a different story altogether.

Thats exactly what I am talking about. You definately need a skilled rider to run ANY bike to what its capable. Just because the bike is capable of a 10 second quarter mile, the rider might only be able to get mid 11's out of it. Just food for thought.

I have an r1 and it will keep the wheel down in 2 and 3rd as long as you stay forward and roll the throttle not snap it. That is the key Roll the trottle.

And to the guy that said a bike has a lower drag coefficeint you are dead wrong. A bike is much likea brick once you put a rider on it. The hayabusa has the best CD and it is still way over what a camaro/firebird/whatever.

Just food for thought.

I have a Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R, can and have blown away more than my fair share of over anxious cars. At the track i SUCK,1.9 60ft and run 11.70's all day long. BUT on the street it is a different story. Bike don't spin and from a roll (anything under 60) always ready to drop back into 1st and let it go .
Highway runs are not too bad for my little 600 but i can only reach approx 140-145 max. My bike is a 1996. I love my car and really enjoy riding the bike, sometimes it is real hard to pick which 1 to drive.
Bikes can be beaten on the highway -I raced a 929 Honda and told my ex-wife "now watch this dude is going to blow by any second" but the guy never caught us. (He started by messing with us and from 75to120 he was behind by at least 1 car from my bumper)(driving the SS)
It can be done ,but rider makes all the difference in the world.
Good Kill,Congrats!!!
Dave

My car is completely stock for now with about 12,000 miles on it. Making sure it is broken in and doing a lot of research on parts and mods. And I thought are cars had a top speed of 159 mph or Road & Track said but that was also a 99they did a test on. What is the top speed anyone has gone with a stock vehicle. And it is a LS-1 TA not a ram-air.
