Default Tangled with late model GT

So, there I was... leaving base and heading home. This late model dark red Mustang (dont know the year-sorry) follows me out. We both turn left at the light and ease out. Hoping for us to straighten out and set up for an even race he downshifts and hammers it. He has an exhaust and a manual trans. thats all i could tell. I follow chase and stop his pull. i cant gain any ground. He lifts quickly only after a short sprint because of a cop down the road. we cruise by and make it to the first stop light going straight. he pulls to my right. not a sound or a glance comes from him. light goes green, he nails it again. he pulls in front of me. we turn left to get on parkway and he guns it and i follow chase to about a 100. again first two gears are even with me BARELY starting to reel him in third. I lift hoping to set up a real race were we can start at the same time. He keeps going full throttle. Sounded decent. Down the road i catch him and pull up to his left and roll the window down, and he ignores me while talking on his cell phone . It would have been a nice close race IMO. Oh well, i got home quicker!

Good runs, but try and get some better ones if you can. Sounds like maybe an intake/exhaust car, maybe with a tune?

Agreed, I was just happy to have a clear 264w and someone to run at the same time. never seem to get em both. oh well. def had an exhaust. his throttle was very crisp on accel so i bet your right about the tune. he didnt tach up crazy fast so he probably had stockish gears (like me ). Good looking car, hard to decribe this red. He works on base so i'll probably get another look in the day light in the near future.

Was it the 05+ that are retro in appearance or the older 98-04 body style?

good question, i never got a look at the front area when we were somewhat lined up. Yeah i know... i had more than enough opportunity . What year had the louvers above and forward of the rear tires? thats the only tell tell detail i can recall. his wasnt there as he had obviously been doing a lot of body work, new paint, new spoiler, etc.

Sounds more like a 99-04 now, which would probably make it a full bolt-on car, possibly with gears. I gotta ask though... how can people not tell what year it is by looking at it? I can tell basically any car (year included) from 50 yards away in the dark . I guess I just assume that everybody studies every car as much as I do?

Nope, you're not the only one

OP, I think it was an S197 GT (05+). Louvers aren't that common on New Edge GT's (99-04), but are fairly common on S197's.

Nice runs

Maybe he's talking about the sidescoops on the 99-04s? I guess he could be talking about C-pillar louvres?

You're 4 v doesn't run much better if any than the 3v.So what 's you point? The fastest 3v has run 12.10 with out poping the valve covers and weighs more than your Mach. That was with an a-5 tranny w/stall 4.30 gear l/t's and tune.

I guess I'll spell it out a bit more.

I think it was an '05+GT that had Intake, exhaust and a tune.

I also think that the OP would have won had they really lined up.
That is what I meant by that post. I wasn't putting down 3v's or promoting my 4v.
Let's not get this thread too off topic.
