I'm in the Navy, and I had to wait until I got my reenlistment bonus to buy most of my mods. Before that, all I could afford was a flowmaster and a shift improver. haha

Yea life is good when mommy and dadddy are rich......but i'm not saying this to put them down.....**** i would love for my parents to have that kind of money....wouldnt yall???
My dad makes a decent buck and payed for my truck but I payed for all my mods. I wish money made life good but unfortunately thats not how it is. We have money but I would trade it all for my mom and my little bro to be better people think that i'm a little rich kid and that bothers me.
I agree Marc. People look at you and if you live in a nice area or your parents make a buck, your life is automatically the best. Which isnt true. We have problems also. My parents make good money, but I pay for everything I have ever did to any of my vehicles. Now i'm forced to buy my own truck, b/c I have wrecked 2 that my parents bought. Which I have no problem with, shows me some responsibility.

If you can't keep up with the rich kids having their parents get their cars faster and faster.. dont race them.
OK to correct this......I never said that that life is better due to money. In the childrens case it worked out for them. They dont have to be like us and work for what they want...which could be a bad thing...but i know when i was younger i would have loved to be those kids....

I love walking off from little rich kids in their Mustangs or F-bodies(no offence to either car owner on this board.) All they see is chrome 20's and 4500 pounds walking off.
I live in a upper class area and know alot of rich kids. There is a very few I can stand to talk to, in fact all the ones I can stand are ricers. Not all rich kids are spoiled or ********, just the majority.
My dad gave me a 1970 MG Midget that didn't run as my first car. I bought the rest. The bank may own mine for another couple of years but, I am driving it.

Im also 18. I afford mine by working, and managing my money pretty well. I dont have to pay for insurance, but I pay for half of my gas, and every dime of the loan I have. I pay about 270 per month on a 5 year loan.

You pay for half of your gas? wtf? ROTFL.

99SSKid-
To answer your question from before ... I worked at a place called PC Richards (I'm sure everyone from NY/NJ has heard of it, but the rest of you probably havent)which is a large electronics store, like a circuit city. I was a salesman there and it made me a little over 400 a week.

When I was younger I worked at a grocery store making 6.75 an hr, thats when I was a ricer, I could only afford stickers and bs mods. Not to mention a couple of cars with no potential. I had a 93 mazda 323 and a 98 honda civic ex before I got my Z. Now that I have a better job I am making up for all the hardships I endured with the ricer cars . There is alot to be said for someone that pays for there own mods compared to someone who is given them. To me its a respect thing, I realize a car built by someones parents is still their car but for whatever reason I have less respect for them??? Maybe I'm just jealous cause my parents were always practical and would never pay for anything that was not practical.

I am 19 and I bought my car used for 10 grand. I am still p[aying it off, although the payments are managable. I dont have to pay for insurance as long as I keep a B average in school to qualify for the good student discount. As for mods, I put money away and do the work myself, otherwise, I would never be able to afford it.

xphantomws6: I buy gas from the same place 95% of the time and to buy it there you have to use a "cardtrol" its like a credit card that only works at these places. I get a discount from buying gas there. So all the gas I charge there when the bill comes, I give my parents half of what I spent on gas. Why is that so funny?

I'm 20, however, I've had an f-body since I was 17. I got a job directly out of high school to afford my dorm room and transportation. I saved for a month or two and put some money down on a 1994 Lt1. I bought most of a forged 383 for it and, sold it at 18. Still have alot of the 383 left. Heh. I then bought my LS1 shortly there after. I took the 3 year loan route, and pay $480 a month. Its alot of dough, but I bring home $500 a week, and just go without food for that week I too also work at a trucking company. My trucking company pays $15/hour for the office, and $19/hour to load trailers. Very good job for a young person. I'd look into it if you can type fairly quick. The main thing I can suggest to you, is to not get ripped off. How you spend money now will effect your ability to mod in the future. For instance, never buy a car at full price. Search search search until you can find a good deal on one. That way, if you sell it you loose minimal money, and you can afford to upgrade to things like near future a corvette or a house. House being #1, of course. House = the ****. You can charge people rent, and they are actually giving you money since the house belongs to you. Not only that, but tax deductions help out alot too. I'm a year or two older than most of you, but thought I'd share my experiences as well.

i'm 18...bought to turn 19. i started mowing yards when i was 14...i now have an 97 F150 and a 21 foot trailer with a snapper, 0 turn radius scat, and all the other gadgets of a mowing business. i mow 60 yards a week and this is south carolina so we have pretty big yards that cost anywhere from 20-50 bucks. so yah i paid for all my stuff and i'd have my car running 9's if i wasn't saving to buy a house later on down the road.

i just turned 18. my first car was a 95 Cobra my mom bought for me. I paid for the mods and all to it. last summer we had it out and i moved to my dads and he used the money he did pay in child support to buy my current car the TA. He covers the car and insurance as long as i stay in school and out of trouble. Ive paid for all the mods but the only thing is i cant freakin run at the track till its paid off, which sucks but also saves me from buyin a bunch of stuff thats track only and all.

ok My first car was a hand down . It was a 88 camry which was given to me when i was 16. I started working when i was 15 and saved EVERY PENNY (started a bank account and gave checkbook to my mom 4 safe keeping.) My parents paid 4 insurance and gas. Then i turned 17 and decided to upgrade my vehicle . I wanted a LS1 transam. All the money i saved up came to about 16 g. I told my parents about my wish and they game the go ahead. Best deal i could fnd was 16,999 on a 00 zcar with 17k miles on it. i jumped at that chance and my parent paid for tax and title. Now i still work and now i pay for gas and insurance and whatever mods i can afford. now that college starts it is going to be tougher to get money 4 mods though.
