Default What would it take to run an Evo?

Hey guys,

Well what exactly would it take for me to beat Evos with basic boltons? My SS is a stock A4 with Flowmasters. Because I ran into an Evo MR, and he didnt even bite. Any help?

TRACTION!!!

that's the main handycap between our cars and most of those AWD imports.

depending on his mods, you should have a good race if you can launch hard and keep traction.

traction like already said is the reason why evolution's take us, from a dig. take traction out of the race and you'll take him every time....stock for stock

He didn't bite because he figured he'd lose...

Maybe thats why? But I get every other sportscar in my area that wants to race. But for launching, where is it good to launch in an A4?

That is True

My friend has an Evo 9 on 17 pounds and full exhaust. Its an even race. I get the jump on him out of the hole everytime, with my A4 and he lauches that thing at 4000 RPMs.

Trial and error-you'll have to practice practice practice. Take it to the strip if you have a local one...

all i have is cold air and catback. from a dig they would eat me

Bone stock to bone stock the evo is probably a good match. You should have have him covered. Most evo drivers are scared to break stuff so they usually don't drive the **** out of thier cars. Seems like most go mid 14s stock. If he can't drive you got it no prob. But an exhaust, boost controller and reflash and some of my friends are running consistent high 11s and low 12s.

i didnt mean it like that. What I meant was there is always room for improvement my brother has smoked several baddly driven bolt on Evo's. He has also gotten a few good runs with STi which give a better competition.

I owned a 07 STi and lots of my friends own Evo's and STi's/Wrx's. I also co-owned a performance shop for 240's/Evo's and WRX/STi's so I kind of know my stuff

Its to general of a question... The Evo 9's are the ones to watch for, TBE a MBC an tune and they are pushing around 300hp and torque to the wheels. Also any tunner can add Flat Foot shifting and launch control so they are even better of the line... My STi just had TBE and an acessport (cheap plug in tuner, not dyno tuned) and I was running high 12's.

The 06 subies had a little bit smaller turbo (and I mean its barley smaller) in 06 but they still ran as fast as the 07's. The 07's are listed with 7 hp less than 06 only because subaru changed how the tested them (heat being turned on and I think radio and a few other things)

The Evo 8's are a little harder to get power out of, one of the more popular mods is cams since they are right on top of the engine. A cam swap can get the 8's atleast 30hp

Also these cars are easy to mod, just changing the IC piping will give around 10hp

You mentioned the MR, its got the 6speed. All of the SE (Special Editions) have just a 5 speed so thats something to remember when racing from a dig

Well for right now Im stock, but by my birthday. Im planning on adding an SLP bolt on package to my SS. Which I think is near 400hp, so possibly lower rwhp. But oh well, I just want to have some fun, and stuck all the Evo owners that take smack like theyre the fastest.

So you have owned an modded Sti before? My buddy has 06 Sti he only has an Injen intake, HKS exhaust, BOV<-- he wants to be able to smoke my vette on a roll. would you recommend a cam and tune or just swapping his turbo for an upgraded one?

You're an A4, so all you really need to do is make sure not to mash the gas from a stop. My track time with a full exhaust is in my sig, and that was my first time ever running at the track. Autos are easy to drive.

some of those evos out there are tough. but most of them will hit it and get the jump on you, and then you see their brake lights flash the second you start reeling them in. just from personal experience.
i only got one to go from a roll with me (traffic behind us) and we went from 25mph. agreed to go til 85mph. i won by two cars, but when we first got on it, he jumped me a half car and held it a bit.
that is before the rear end swap and supercharger

Don't waste your money on that SLP crap (400 at the crank= 335-345whp). Source the parts yourself, you'll not only save money for other parts, but you will make more power. Don't get a MAF either, stock is good for 500hp.

BTW what year is your car? A higher stall convertor, DR's, and full exhaust should do the trick nicely. Then LCA's and reloc brackets if you get a lil wheel hop.
