Default 95z28 vs mid 90's GT with gears and heads

I was driving home from work today, i saw a white mid 90's 4.6gt at a gas station. he was getting in his car and i threw him a rev.
about a mile down the road he catches up, we were on a 6 lane road he gets in the far right im far left.we nod and work our way to the front were we can have some room.
he gives it some gas a few times, and i must say it sounded great.
so i figured he wouldlt be much different then the other 5 4.6l's i have raced, we get on it and i pull them usually 4-5 lenghts from any roll.
so we are ready, lots of clear road ahead of us we dont honk but we hit it at the same time from about 40, were even, at about 60 he barely pulls, he shifts about 65-70, i do a second later and by 100 I was at his door.
I was really suprised by the outcome.
i gave him a big thumbs up, i later ask him what was done, i had to know. it was a 5speed with 4.10s, heads, and full exhaust. so it was a loss but im fine with it

I'm surprised he didn't pull you more, quite frankly... but good run nonetheless. Was he running the stock cams with those heads?

you expect a random NPI to win? 95% of the time my money is going against them

Since when is a bolton/geared GT with a headswap a "random NPI?" I'm not saying it should have walked away from him, but my old '98 GT wasn't even 4-5 lengths behind the stock LT1 F-bodies that I raced. It had K&N filter, X-pipe, cherry bombs/turndowns, and a PI intake manifold. And about 50lbs or so less weight than a stock '98. The Z28 and WS6 that I raced both beat me, but it was more like 2-3 cars from 50-120 for the WS6, and only 1-2 cars from a first gear roll to ~100mph for the Z28. And for the record, my '98 was one of the not-too-many '98 5spds that had 3.27s instead of 3.08s or 2.73s.

Yeah, my car was stronger than most of the 96-98s and I'm pretty sure that was most of the reason. Mod motors love steeper gears, even if it's not THAT big of a change. I can wait for my 4.10s
