Lightning Kill (oh yeah, and this is my first post)
Hello all,
As in the subject, I'm a new member at ls1tech.com, so hello to you all. I'm 25, live in SE Michigan and drive a bone stock (for now) black '02 TA WS6 M6. Anyway, I'll get right into the story. On July 4thI was driving two of my cousins around town to check out fireworks and it was pretty late. And of course who do I see??? This guy with a navy blue '02 Lightning that has absolutely no respect for his vehicle (I hate that). Whether I'm driving my beater car or TA, I always see him driving recklessly in the middle of town, squealing his tires constantly and just being an idiot in general. However, he does have sweet rims and tasteful green flames painted on the front & side.
Anyway, he wanted to race me a while back but it was too close to the local police station so I respectfully declined. But I got a chance again on the 4th. We were at a light right next to each other with no one else around, so I thought why not. Plus he had some kind of hard core rap cranked up, which I hate (hence my license plate that reads "NIRVANA").
So as soon as the light turned green we both took off from a dig. He jumped about half a Lightning length in front of me through 1st and 2nd gears. Mind you I had about 300lb worth of extra passengers and this was actually my first race in the car. Anyway, as soon as I shifted to 3rd I easily flew right past him, and by fourth gear at around 100-105mph I was about 2 lengths ahead of him.
Needless to say he was quite pissed and when I braked at about 110mph he flew past me and didn't slow down until the next light. Then when I caught up to him at the light he moved over in front of me so we wouldn't be next to each other. Then when that light turned green he took off like a maniac and went way too fast around some curves. It was pretty damn funny!
Hope you guys enjoyed the story. Also I'm curious if this scenario sounds typical of a L vs. F-body race. He claims he has done a little engine work to his L, but I doubt it considering that I beat him fairly easily. Maybe his definition of engine work is installing a K&N? Oh well, I was just happy to put him in his place.

good kill, he was driving that truck like some Import drivers I've seen... beating on it, being too much of a bitch to pull up next to you at the light, doing that import fly-by ... people like that are dumb as hell.
Good job kicking his ***

I drove one that had a chip and a filter, ran 13.2's... Off the line footing up the gas and rolling out it would kill most M6 LS1 F-cars but the F-body should pass him at the 1/8th. From a high speed roll they are out of the sweet spot and it's like racing a GTP.

Yep, PSJ is right. I stomped a few Lightnings from a 50mph roll on the highway. They just don't have the punch at that speed...too much weight. They'll get you out of the hole though.
The fastest Lightning I've ever seen ran 12.2's. Big deal. They are nothing to worry about.
