I haven't but I know some of the guys mainly Mario. I do make it to most of the DSM meets since they are close to my house.

Umm well have and have had a few modded up dsms..commonly referred to as lasers, eclipses and talons. A 2g ,2nd gen has the very small t25 turbo.Car has 200 or so hp. You can dial in a few pound extra to a t25 and might get 250 or so engine hp out of the car. The fwd are decently light and should weigh in a bit under 3000 pounds. The awd are around 3100 to 3200 range.

The t25 is pretty much a waste of time. The older 1g or 1st gens have the 14b on the manual cars which can do some good numbers and give 300 or so engine hp pretty easily. And awd is also capable of some great 60fts if you have decent clutch and up the power.

The thing is you can swap bigger turbos onto these cars pretty cheaply.
A 400 engine hp turbo is well under a grand. And can be swapped in an afternoon easy. Of course you need to do supporting mods as you start going up in boost and power even on stock turbo. Fuel pump ,bigger injectors, tuning ,etc. The 1g engines are very tough especially the 6 bolt versions and can take like 500 engine hp pretty much in stock form.

I built a 2.4 engine for my 97 talon. Its a mit engine that was found in things like hyundai sonatas. You use the block and throw away the single cam head. The twin cam turbo head fits right on there. You get more torque and quicker spool up. Like going up to a 408 type of thing in our f cars.

Currently am building a 91 talon turbo auto awd trailer only car. Should be fun.

Hey duders.. I'm new to AZ as well, I just moved down to Tucson from Duluth, MN. Fun drive in my camaro, I could have done without 400 miles of blizzards though..

Anyway.

I raced a turbo talon with an auto, 16g turbo, 20lbs of boost. This was before I got my motor built, all I had was magnaflow catback, and a pos hypertech programmer. He gunned it on the highway goin like 65, I gassed it in fifth gear, he was pulling ahead. I smiled. Slammed it into 3rd. RIPPED by the dude, later on he chased me down talkin about his "big turbo" and how unbelievably fast my car was.

The thing that sucks, hardly any racers in my hometown. So, when you smoke one, the word gets out, and nobody else wants to race. SO GAY. I'd spend the whole summer, hours out of everyday trying to find people to race and maybe come across ten cars the whole summer.

Now I'm down in Tucson, and its a different story. I can't even go get a pack of cigs without some jackass trying to race me.

Wait.. Maybe I'm the jackass

Lol...Whenver I'm in Tucson..I get no races, unless I head to in and out on Saturdays. And even then, its with our car club....most of which destroy my pretty much stock car. How long you been in Tucson? Ever notice how down every street saturday night...you see ricers everywhere? It's a damn shame.

I've been here for like.. a little over 3 weeks I guess..
Saturday night? Dude, I see ricers everywhere on wednesday mornings at 7am. Serious, I would be goin to work drivin north on oracle, and I get people with nissan sentras trying to race me in traffic. I have seen some beastly looking cars here, but haven't raced any super quick ones yet. Hopefully I'll be spraying by the end of next month, I could use a little insurance for my sloooow Z.

it was most likely true. the trannies are a common weak link.

The auto trannies are very tough and have gone tens in stock form. The manual trannies well.... clutches need to be upgraded much past 300 hp but there are good clutches available pretty cheap under 500 bucks .

The manual trannies in the 2nd gens are better than the first gens and usually can take up to 500 engine hp if you don't really lean on them. The first gen have some syncro problems usually from abuse. And sometimes you have to adjust them ,many people don't know how to. Clutch is adustable.

One more time.. a stock 14g 1st gen with not that many mods would come close to a stock lt1 car but would have problems with ls1 cars even stock ls1 cars. Highly modded up 14gs would fair a bit better, this means things like cams, intake manifold.
Course you could lighten these cars up a fair bit too.

To be competitive against a mildy modded ls1 then its time for a turbo upgrade and that t25 in the 2nd gen is a joke and has about 250 engine hp max potential compared to a bit over 300 engine hp for a 14g. The usual cheapest upgrade is a 16g..a 400 engine hp or so turbo. Usually though you need race gas or acl injection to get the best out of the 16g. On pure pump no alc it isn't all that impressive. And you can't compare boost especially when you are talking different turbos. A big GT35R will put out way more power at 10psi than the t 25 at 10psi. Its volume of air thru the engine..for example bigger turbo at 10psi might be getting 40pounds of airflow, equivalent to about 400engine hp. The smaller one at 10psi might be getting 20 pounds of airflow per minute
Equivalent to 200 engine hp.

Stock 2g talons in standard from do around low 15s, bone stock boost.Takes work to get low 14s out of them and if its auto not very easy to even get that without modifed stall speed. Not exactly fast stock. The awd can do good things from light to light though do to great traction. The autos are even slower than the stick cars. Weight around 3200 for 2g awd cars..around 2900 for standards. The 1gs are slightly lighter.
