Default Slushbox vs. Stick

This happened a couple weeks ago, at the end on last month. It was the opening night at Memphis Motorsports and I was heading home after a pretty good night. I've been hunting for a nice stoplight duel since I got the thing, and it seems everything I see is always heading in the opposite direction. I'm heading down Goodman and notice a little somethin' somethin' up ahead in the distance. I casually make my way through a few cars and manage to come up behind the fellow. Well, what'd ya know!!!! Another LS1! It's Sunset Orange, has a little sound to it, and is lugging around two dudes up front and a chick in the back; it was just me and my brother in mine, plus two Trailblazer wheels and tires in the back seat.

We get out ahead and get a little space. He immediately gives me a little rev and grin so I figure he's game. We line up at the next intersection and sit there, waiting and watching that light like it's got *******. We see green, and drop the hammers to get the show on the road. Both of us spin on the greasy pavement, but he catches a hair quicker and starts pulling me. He gets about two cars on me and we slow down. I roll up beside him, asking what I already know. "Six speed, hmm?" Of course.. I nod and we line them up again, this time from a roll. We hit it again and he might've pulled me buy a blinker before we shut them down. We run through this routine two or three more times with the same results. The boy just can't pull me!

By now I'm a few miles down the road past where I was going to turn off, and our attempts to talk and drive weren't working too well. We pull over next to BP and get to talkin'. His is a '98 model as well with a "$1,500 Borla exhaust", as he put it. From the sound of the car, I'd say it might've had a Y-pipe and catback, but I'm not sure about headers. Other than that, he said he had a rebuilt transmission, new clutch, a "Programmer", lid, and 3.73s. The catch, he was pushin' 150,000 on the odo. He grinned when I told him I only had 71,000 on mine, but was taken aback when I mentioned my 2.73s, hacked muffler, and lid. He didn't realize they even came with 2.73s.

I could sense the envy when he asked what I paid. He gave about $2,000 more with 30,000 more miles, just a little over a year before.

His was a high miler, but he had a little more in it than me. Wouldn't blame the driver, cause that guy was shifting the snot out of it.

Fun night

High miles mean nothing if it runs right, my car had 107k and ran perfect

I guess it all depends on how it's maintained. I had a high mile Mustang that ran like a top at 160,000.

2.73s are bitches down low, but I guess aren't too terrible up top
