03 Cobra
Where do some of you guys get your info?
While I'm no Mustang lover, the '03 Cobras are badass, and you most likely won't beat a stock one with mere bolt-ons. unit213 speaks the truth. A coupla grand in bolt-ons for the '03s and you got 450+ to the wheels. Thats more than most H/C LS1s make.
Thats the biggest bunch of BULLSHIT I have heard in a while.
Thanks! I needed that.

The new cobras arent ****. I love the owners that add some bolt ons and think they are unstopable. I ran into a 03 with all the bolt ons and computer work and put atleast 5 on him. He is over 460. maybe ill ask him to put a n2o kit on it so it will be fair. Hell my little 346 vs a 2 power adder car This would be a good race. But yes the cobra is quick with some mods. Just not what everyone makes them out to be.
Thanks! I needed that. I thoght so too!!.....I love my LS1 as much as the next guy but you still need alot of boltons to beat a stock 03 Cobra....that is if you are able to find one in stock form!....But I knew it took more than just simple mods.....But if you go up against a modded 03 Cobra...you better have some internal work done!!.....and then some!....just my 02 cents
A bolt on LS-1 won't hang with a Cobra if it does the guy wasn't trying, if you launch good you may pull out ahead but he'll catch you and pass you, unless you catch one rolling out of a dealer not too many are stock, I haven't run into a slow one yet !! Time for a cam and headers !!
Now you guys are on the opposite end of the spectrum. It doesn't take many bolt-ons to be neck & neck vs. an '03 Cobra. I think the following will do it (in an M6):
1. Lid
2. Catback
3. Free mods
4. Headers
5. Nittos
That's about it to hang with one. Stomping one into the pavement will take a cam or nitrous. Stock for stock a Cobra will put 2 cars on an LS1. That's no big deal really.
Thanks for the props MOBE. I'm trying to be unbiased. I have seen the best of both worlds so I'm a decent source for opinions.

I just ordered a Vortech Supercharger For My 2002 WS6.
When it is installed I will post the results of any encounters with the almighty cobra.

Your blown LS1 will destroy a stock Cobra. A modded one is a different story.

Thanks! I needed that. When I was at the track 3 newer cobra's were there. None of them did better then a 13.3, and the one that did 13.3 said he had exhaust, lid, and some other little thing that I can't remember right now. And this was after a few runs. But so far thats all I've seen in person what the cobra's are runnin.
A freind of mine just got one. It's stock, I'll have to try to race him b4 he mods it.
He had a 360R Roush Stage 3 with catback and pulley. We raced, I had him in 1st, by the time I hit second he began passing me. We raced 3 times and each time it was to about 120mph. He had me by about 4-5 car lengths each time.
I've raced an older, non supercharged Cobra 96? with atleast flowmaster and I spanked him from a roll, from 45, and from 75. So Ford def. needed to supercharge the Cobra. And when they did, damn look what happened.
I'll post results when I race him. I have a bad feeling tho...I only have lid, basic performance tune from predator, stage 4 clutch, and borla. plus my car is set up for autoX....well see what happens.

They 're fun to run I just always get pulled on, it's not like they blow you off the road, I've just never been able to stay ahead of one. My sister has one funny thing is I know it's faster but it doesn't feel faster make sense.
Well it is official that unit213 is the coolest mustang owner.
Well, aside from that, I think that MadIceV8 is
, a lid?????????? Uhhhh, the LS1 has a lid,..........not a Cobra. With exhaust alone, the Cobra rips out of the 13, and in the mild 12, like 12.3-12.7. This car was well put together, and with ehaust and a new intake, I think it just might put out over 450 to the wheels. The car is supercharged, and breathing through a smaller throtle body then out NA LS1, due to regulations. Also, the exhaust is quite restrictive, and hampers the engines power. The car, I believe, is capable of over 500hp from the factory, and can be done with differnt puly, intake, and exhaust. It is quite capible of 20psi in stock trim.

CamaroSS - Thanks for the BS flag, but to bad you are BS since I DID see the runs with my own eyes. It was at US41 dragway SAT morning at the MFBA track rental. Even tho I was stupid for saying an air lid, not intake (close enough, stop tring to be a jerk). And what you think and what actually happens are 2 different things because these 03 cobra's weren't doing as good as you put. Not that I doubt they can do better (ie: units time), I just haven't seen it in person yet.
Sorry MadIceV8, but you quoted them in saying that. I was just saying that the numbers were a little high, and then you poped the word lid n there soI thought it was a hoax. Don't take it persona, I apologize, and looooooove yur car. Sorry.
Alright, apology accepted
.
The 1st run was by the stock 03 cobra and he ran 13.4. Then the other one with the 2 bolt-ons ran soon after and only did 13.3 but he did spin a bit at the launch. I seen them do about 2 more runs and nothing better. Then their was this new 350z that couldn't run better then 14.1, but thats a differnt story
. After that I left around 2pm since I got their at 9am and the drive home was 2hrs
* I actually wouldn't mind owning a 03 cobra either, but still like the look of the camaro's better.

I'll put it this way.My best bolton times with the SS were in the high 11's on dr's.My best time in my buddies bolton 03 Cobra was 12.08@119 on STREET TIRES.A full bolton LS1 has no chance from a roll against a mild-full bolton 03 Cobra
US41 was slick Saturday (especially the right lane) - I'd break loose and start getting sideways and have to get off of the gas when I'd shift to 2nd. Even the modded cars with slicks were having traction problems with the right lane.
It sure was funny seeing Dan totally smoke that notch-back Mustang with the cowl induction hood, with his Subaru wagon.
BTW, I was in the Navy Blue Camaro convertible - I made about 10 passes - the fastest was only a 13.52

I have only been to the track a few times this year but there were 3 nearly stock (prob filter/exhaust cars and maybe a bit more) cobras that were all between 12.3 and 12.5. The thing is, for the amount of HP it takes them to run that time and us seems to be quite different. I know that it all depends on how the car is set up but I know of at least one on this board that has ran 11.5's with 380 hp. The cobra's didnt look that quick but the time slip doesnt lie
Of course, after I questioned the efficiency/power tradeoff of the '03 Cobra in some other thread, what should happen on the interstate Saturday but that a white one should have me for lunch.
I move to lane one to make a pass, and what do I see but a 'Stang barreling on up behind me. Not very "neigh"-borly of me to block this feller, I'm thinkin', so I'd better open up and give him some room. It's right as I'm punching fourth at around 80 that I get a good enough look at him to make out the front fascia.
I knew what was gonna happen, but I figgered, wtf. Let's see how bad. He stays pasted at a decent following distance as we blast up to @110. I'm chickening out at this point, but he swaps to lane two before I can move over for him. Blasts ahead and then slows up, we trade nods, grins, and thumbs-up.
Fun run. Good benchmark, too.
And I'm a week outta traffic school, so you can see all the good that does...
