Default RX-8 not as fast as he thought it was

Co-worker of mine recently bought an RX-8 and kept running his mouth about how fast it is because it's so light and has a really high redline. Nevermind the fact that they make no power at all.

This evening on the way out of the parking lot he flew past me, I caught up to him on the freeway on-ramp and surprised him by gaining on him through the corner. By his words my car is too big and heavy to handle well....

I gave it 3/4 throttle in 4th and walked by him. We got off the freeway and turned left under the over-pass me in the inside lean and him in the outside lane. I could hear his motor spinning up so I dropped the hammer and power-shifted 1-2 and 2-3 gears. When I looked in my mirror he had already moved over and was making a left-hand turn.

Maybe he won't talk about cars with me anymore...that would be a shame, he was entertaining. Now to take care of that kid who just bought a dumdumdumdum and thinks it's the fastest thing out there....

Saw an Rx8 dyno and it only put out 130hp and 150 torque, pretty sad.

Most do. I used to own an RX-8 (everyone makes mistakes, right? ). I didn't get a chance to run mine, but last time I was at the track my friend ran a 14.4 in his RX-8.

340whp is the most I've ever seen on a turbo RX-8, and they are very very rare since most people who have them find out that there's no point.

Those cars are a joke in any kind of straight line race. Even the announcers at the track make fun of them without trying to sound like they are.

A friend of mine went out and bought a brand new one a few years ago when I had my 95 3.4L m5 camaro. We ended up going from a 20 roll and we were door to door to about 90.
He said damn your car is fast, I didnt want to break is heart but I was thinking "damn your **** is slow"

Yea I've never came across a fast one yet either. I'm just waiting for someone to chime in and say they're fast.

I don't think THAT should have happened, but they're definitely not the quickest things out there.

Yeah... but I'm just saying that if you "straight up raped" one in a stock V6 Mustang, he probably wasn't a "really good driver"

When we went to the track, we both had our best times. 15.02 @ 91 me and something like 15.2 @ 90.2 for him. I'm not real sure what a "good" time for a manual RX8 would be but it can't be much more than that. I drove it...it was horrible.

Average drivers are gonna run high 14s/low 15s, but really good drivers that know their cars well have gone mid 14s @ 94-96mph. 90mph trapspeed is quite low for a 6spd RX8.

Guess the weight offsets the absence of torque no?

Talked to one in a taco bell drivethrough once. Said he was exhaust with 65 shot. Ran like...14.3 or something. I asked what the elevation was at the track, and he said sea level. I tried my best not to laugh. Kinda felt bad for him actually.l

Sort of. It's still slow as hell. There's a reason I sold mine.

People with RX-8's should stick to autocrossing.
