I'm really curious as to how the rice craze started. Alot of tards say its the fast and the furious, but it was already pretty popular when the movie was made. The movie just made it even more stupid. The first time I herd of a civic "racing" was back in 99 when a dude said "ya these dudes are taking civic hatchbacks, forging the engine and throwing n20 in, ******* fast". I thought wtf a civic racing, who does that. Shortly after I started seeing the Gs rolling deep on 18s with fart cans.

Was wondering how the hell little slow *** economy cars became THE car to mod up and "race". There are alot more people into rice than domestics these days it seems.

 

Hell I remeber back in 94 the Peurto Ricans in Texas where doing CRAZY things with little turbo imports. I think around then is when it started seriously. Then it was kind of cool and I enjoyed watching them run. Then the tards with bad attitudes and sideways hats came into the picture. Now I just want to PUKE!! Every time I here or see one.

 

ive seen a huge increase in rice since Paul Walker and Vin Diesel built 10 second supras and 900hp chassis twisting Chargers.

I dont know either. I think it is just because they are so cheap. Honestly i do not see the logic behind it really. But a lot of the asian culture is very true to its roots so to say. Look at like a Korean church parking lot on a sunday. you will have a hard time finding more then 2 or 3 domestics. So the asians strated to build the small motors because they wanted to keep the imports and did not have enough money to get something with a bigger engine. And then the white boys followed them from there.

 

it was pretty popular before F&F but the movie just made it more popular . . . now they need to make a movie involving our cars!!!!

 

They don't have to make a movie glorifying/falsifying the performance of V8's.. everyone and their mother knows they are fast..we don't need a movie to add false hope..

Granted some of the little fuggers are fast..but like said it's the ones with the bad attitudes that ruin the fun of it.

I had a kid in a Honda run along side of me the other day, he just wanted to see me get on it.. I did and he was like "**** yea, rock on.."
He was just out havin fun like I was.

 

Ya but i am scared to have the young morons with twice the the horsepower then what they have now. But that would be cool none the less.

 

It's always been popular like mentioned above, but the amount of money it takes to make them run with a V8 is what gets me. The ones that have the money and know how to make them run, those are usually the cool guys. The rest are *** hats that should stick with a huffy IMO. I'll take my V8 anyday though. If gas shot up to $6 a gallon, I'd still drive it when ever and where ever.

 

Around here it blow up after F & F i know because i caught the bug but i learned quickly. Most ppl here saw the 4 bangers in the movie and thought i can make this 4 banger fast with very little money and take on V8's .
I remember a lot of guys in civics wanted to race me , i would ask them what they have done to their cars and they will say "cold air and exhaust (which was only a muffler) . Then they would tell me they were make 300hp with those mods.....but they never give up modding 4 bangers even if they found out the hard way.They thought v8's were push 500hp to bet their civics little did they know most v8 were 300hp stock . Then i would bet them and tell my car was stock they thought i was lying. They thought i had NOZ .........i just laughed.... and say you mean NITROUS

 

I got my Integra GS-R right after that movie came out. But it was because that was the car I wanted (and my parents wouldn't let me get a V8), not because I thought it was the ****. Even though it was

 

i have to agree it was around a very long time, my cousin had a turbo rx7(95) that was very worked and looked stock, then my brother had a 81 rx7 with a 350
it just wasnt all about 18s+ and fart cans back then, if it was for performance it wasnt there. i think f&f was the one that started the craze of fart cans tbh

 

Down here in SoCal there where dudes modding and racing 4cyl. in the late 80's early 90's. Almost a decade before the F&F came out. All looked as stock as possible. Almost all had one off pieces, turbo kits, n2o set-ups, etc.

I'll agree almost 90% of the Fartcan/shopping cart wing scene came after the F&F though. If you look at the import mag that were out before the movie, all the cars were super clean. Almost immediately after stickers galore, wings, nasty bodykits, huge wheels (for imports). They went from go to show fast.

 

RICE Came from the F&F movie and made the 0935810928349 teens out there that get a honda as there first car (esp civic or accords) think its SUPER easy to make cars run like the ones in the movies.

BUT import racing has been around for a LONG time down south and in the west coast with the simple cars back like the 88-92 rx7s and the DSMs, things that came turbo and were not TOO hard to work on. twisting a **** and you get more power (boost controller)...even now i think thats friggin AWSOME lol
