Nice kill to the OP, and to the 2 tranny guy; some custom trucks run a dual range tranny behind the main like that. Mostly for towing and offroad uses, its basically the same thing as being able to have a 2 speed rear axle.

what you saw was a overdrive kit that can be added to th350-th400. Lots of hot rods use them. Very expensive. Not really sure the way they work but that is what you saw. http://www.drivetrain.com/new_overdr...m3spdauto.html

are you looking at the el camino? thats not it. im talking about the 82 silverado with the 502.

it was most likely a gear vendors over/underdrive unit splits your gearing 1/2....a 12 speed for your m6!! but would be retarted and very difficult to us in that case

Probably an aftermarket overdrive unit... Gear splitter. Whatever you want to call it..
