ZO6 spanks the field....Part 1
I know 25psi has been stirring it up a bit. I was just reading the latest issue of Car and Driver. In it, they have an article on a "Tuner Shootout" for the mighty little four bangers basically in the same format as they have done the Supertuner challenge(for "real" cars) of the past few years. They cannot deny that this is a popular segment in the automotive industry. There are over 10 contestants all making relatively decent showings("relatively" being the operative word). The fastest of the bunch was a Honda S2000....with a grand total of $68,000 and change into it. There was also an STI that came in over $80,000 bills. Anyway, a very good article and good reading. At the very end of the article and at the bottom is a picture of a ZO6 with this EXACT quote:
"Here's the problem faced by many of these guys:We ran this $56,720 ZO6 thru the course twice and it spanked them all. It's quickest time was 122.8, 1.3 seconds quicker than the CompTech S2000."
Pretty much sums it up....BTW, the price quoted for the ZO6 was for the Le Mans commemorative edition which sports a special paint job and a Carbon fiber hood. A "regular" ZO6 can be had for about 5 grand less than that(and even less with a little haggling).
It seems the Car and Driver crew, while recognizing this segment of cars, still, like many of us, just can't see the reasoning in spending all this money on something not as fast as what is offered right out of the box.
As for rebuttals(25psi), please realize this included 1/4 mile times as well as track times.....so this is really for an all around car...not just straight line speed. I still like the EVO.

All I have to say is..
OWNED.
Try to counter that. He'll probably say "Well, car and driver is ****, if it was me modding the cars, I'd..." blah blah blah.

I read the article. After reading page after page of rice, seeing the red white and blue "LeMans" painted ZO6, and it's rice whipping performance was interestingly awesome.
It got even better after reading how the CTS-V whooped the M3 and M5 around the test track in Germany.
LS6 world domination!

You need to compare the likes of similar real world cars. Not ones with more money spent than others. Motor Trend did a comparison between stock cars. Here's the real comparison:
Check out the June 2003 issue of Motor Trend, the little Evo put up a good fight.

Mustang Cobra 4.82
Jaguar XKR 5.21

Mustang Cobra 26.3@0.71G
Jag XKR 26.6@0.69G
The Evo hit a top speed of 156 mph (electronically governed)
There were some pretty stout players in this little comparo:
Dodge Viper SRT-10 ($83,795)
Lambo Murcielago ($284,850)
Corvette ZO6 ($51,450)
Mustang SVT Cobra ($34,750)
Ferrari 575M Maranello ($241,092)
Mosler MT900 Photon ($210,000)
Mercedes CL55 AMG ($118,650)
Jaguar XKR ($83,975)
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution ($30,062)
Considering this is not the Japanese so called "FLAGSHIP", it put up respectable times against your "American Muscle". We are also comparing a 4 door turbo 4 cyl, against the likes of big block coupes and supercharged v8's.
With a dp,exhaust, intake, and a boost controller totaling less than 2000, this car has already seen low 12's high 11's at over 112 mph.

I know the price is pretty high but they would not test the new Ford GT against the rest of the field. I am sure it would have put good numbers up.

Re: ZO6 spanks the field....Part 1
Let's look at the rest of the MT shoot out results, that 25 PSI decided not to include.
0-100-0, the EVO placed 2nd to last beating the XKR. The standing mile, the EVO finished dead last 35.1 @ 142.4 vs the Z06 31.8 @ 162.6 - **** a full 20 mph over the EVO, wonder what that would look like in a race.
1/4 mile EVO 2nd to last again 13.08 @ 105.12. Now you can get a better picture of the cars performance not just the bits 25 PSI decided to use.

Very good points, LEO. That standing mile is pretty sick. The EVO runs out of ***** on the top end. And yes, that Ford GT is going to be interesting. What sucks though is that you will be paying for exclusivity, that is it. By the time it comes out, the Viper is already there performance wise at less than half the price. The ZO6 version of the C6 will soon follow with approx. 450 horses and more weight loss. I guess all I am saying is that the GT is a little late to the horsepower wars and it will not be packing enough of it to raise any eyebrows....at 150 grand. At that price I am very close to a Ferarri 360 or a Lamborghini Gallardo. I'm just would not be all that jazzed about paying that much for a Ford. And 25psi, I agree, the EVO is a capable car. It is a great all around car doing most things well. I wouldn't mind having one as a daily driver. But there is also an 03 Cobra in that price range or a Lightning which I wouldn't mind having either.

Got the mag at home, 25 psi how can you argue that the evi is high 11's. those mag. cars where from the top tuner and they didn't run that. Don't blame drivers either because the tuner had the option of driving for themselves

Re: ZO6 spanks the field....Part 1
Gooodddd point John.... When will people learn that the ZO6 and 03 Cobra are the fastest cars one the market. They wont they would rather go out and spend 30 grand on a four banger. At least you can mod the ZO6 And cobra and go alot further than the imports..

On another note, that Z06 line was pretty funny! That car is probably one of the very best all-around cars in the world right now.

Notice how 25 PSI can't seem to respond once the whole story is revealed and not only the points of a discussion that make his arguement seem believeable.

Sometimes I wonder who is worse ... you and your pointless info about your cubically challenged cars ... or that waste of life bullitt (doesn't need much more of an explination then that).
If you would stop trying to "prove" that those dumb little cars can keep up with ours, and just post some damn kills, I'm sure a lot more people in this forum would like you. If not, go over to the honda forum, and tell them all about the evo, I'm sure they know less about it then we do.

Re: ZO6 spanks the field....Part 1
The Z06 version of the C6 slated for 2005 was quoted by the CEO of GM as "at least 500hp" the normal C6 will leave the floor with 400hp.... Sorry can't remember where I read this.
