My personal technique is to actually go almost off-idle (1.5-3krpm, depending on track prep), and INCREASE rpm as the clutch engages, so that by the time it's fully engaged, I try to be at 4-5krpm. FWIW, that gave me relatively consistent 2.0 60' on street potenzas 245/50ZR16 at one of the worst tracks in the country (SIR), no VHT on tire trick or anything like that...

THAT right there is EXACTLY what I am telling him to do. Start off with a relatively low RPM and roll into it as you get traction and your clutch engages ... EXACTLY what I have been saying.

Now that you have better explained what you were saying and put a few extra clauses in there it makes more sense. I was under the impression you were telling him to bring it up to 5k and dump the clutch, which would definately break his car real quick.

I guess we were both going for the same thing, just explaining it in opposite directions.

Well, again, thank you guys for all you help. I really appreciate it. I have been practicing alot more and have been shaving a few tenths off my times. Still running a 2.3 60' but im slowly getting better.

And a revision or addition to other techniques.........

I bring the RPMs(to whatever you wish to start at) up and let the clutch out slightly. Not to where the car moves, but where you can feel the clutch plates biting. SO that way, when the light goes green and you let it go it is not a shock to the tires or the drivetrain. This has produced the best times for me without smoking the clutch. You can take it a step further and have your right foot on the accelerator and the brake at the same time(heel and toe like) and your clutch foot just barely engaging the clutch.....kind of a poor man's line lock. Takes a little practice.
